Well, my DD did, in a way. On top of all of the financial troubles we've been having since the end of November (and before) now I have this to deal with.

She slipped on ice yesterday on her way home from school, actually it happened across the street from school. She fell and the back of her hand landed on a chunk of ice. We went for an x-ray tonight and only one wrist bone is fractured, thank goodness that is all.
Tomorrow she'll be getting a cast (I think), not sure how severe the break is or if it will warrant a cast. This is uncharted territory for me. I never had a broken bone in my life and neither did my only sibling. We were very fortunate as kids and now as adults.

My ds broke his wrist bone about a year and a half ago. He loved the experience. Be sure to ask about getting a waterproof cast so she can take showers and baths and stuff and not worry about it getting wet. I hope she's not in too much pain.

Well, welcome to the club...

My son, by the age of 6 broke both of his arms. (both gymnastics related)

My daughter fractured her wrist on the school playground in kindergarten

For tonight, we have her wrist in one of her "skateboarding/rollerblading" wrist pads. She wouldn't put it on because I told her to, but I called a family friend who said that it was a good idea and she put it on right away. She never listens to me.

Thanks for mentioning the waterproof cast browneyes (Shannon is it?). I never would have thought about it.

You're welcome Kris.:) Yes, my name is Shannon.:)

When my ds broke his arm, a couple of people on the boards mentioned getting a waterproof cast, and I was so glad they mentioned it! His arm didn't get itchy with the waterproof cast either (the dr said if it did itch, to just squirt water in the inside of it).

So much for a waterproof cast. Since I lost an hour of work yesterday to go to the doctor and another hour this morning waiting for DH to come home from taking the car for state inspection, I asked DH to take DD to her 11 o'clock appt with the Orthopaedic. I forgot to mention this point when I made arrangements with DH this morning.

DD will be sporting a bright pink cast for the next three weeks.

When my mom broke her wrist 2 years ago she asked about the waterproof cast. Her orthopedist said that they didn't put waterproof casts on anyone, because the water can get trapped inside it and cause sores to form, from the cast rubbing on the wet skin. There was something else too, but I don't remember now what it was.
Oh, and putting a plastic bag over the cast makes showers very possible. Just wrap it somehow to keep the water out. It is ok if the cast gets a little wet. Obviously it can't get soaked, but if it gets a little water on it it is ok.

Thanks for the tips Sharon. DD did get a pamplet from the ortho. explaining how to take care of the cast.
