Gilroy Gardens

DH and I are staying in Staybridge in the "exotic" location of Fairfield California. Last night I suggested making the 2 hour drive to Gilroy Gardens. This morning DH was game, cause I volunteered to drive. So after fighting with the website for tickets we were on our way. Traffic was pretty light. We arrived after about 2 hours on the road. We had a great time. The lines were really short. The park is really sweet. It is very family friendly. The rides are very tame. The park is really clean and the customer service was awesome. Everyone was very cheerful and friendly. I think it is a pretty good deal, tickets online are $29.99. It is only open from 11am-5 pm weekends only. I highly recommend it!

Such a beautiful park. The grounds are amazing. You are spot on......"sweet" and "family friendly" describe it perfectly. Glad you had a great time. We have only been once, and I really hope we can make it back there one of these days. I think they do something with Christmas lights in December.

No. The thought of garlic ice cream did not appeal to me.

Anywho, one thing I can recommend near Fairfield is Fenton's Ice Creamery in Vacaville. Great stuff if it's anything like the one in Oakland. http://www.fentonscreamery.com If you remember, Fenton's was mentioned in the Disney movie UP. It turns out the Pixar animators from Emeryville like to visit the Oakland store, enough so that they immortalized it in a Pixar movie.

Also, I believe there is a Jelly Belly factory and tour in or near Fairfield.

My family lives about 20 miles away and my mom was freaking out about having the kids overnight. Yeah they did fine. Gilroy was a last minute decision. If I had planned it better I would have stayed in Benicia, but I didn't think about Gilroy until Friday night.
