Gilligans Island?

A couple of people have told me that Gilligans Island was filmed on Castaway Cay. Is this true?

No. The island they show at the beginning of GI is actually the private island the Big Red Boat used to go to. I believe Ive heard there are some excursions that go there, but its definitely not CC.

Gilligan's Island

I was told that Gilligan's Island is the same island that the movie Blue Lagoon was filmed on...

That island is in Nassau, and is called the Blue Lagoon excursion...

It looks like you are both right... The opening pictures of the island in the show are Coconut Island in Hawaii and the close up of the lagoon is Sandy Cay in the Bahamas very close to Salt Cay or Blue Lagoon...

I believe Blue Lagoon Island was the location of the movie Flipper, not the tv show, but the movie. Two of the dolphins that you can meet in the swim are the actual dolphins used in the movie. If I remember correctly, Gilligan's Island was filmed in Hawaii.

From what I recall... ...The actual island shown in the opening credits is a small island that is off of the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. It can be seen clearly from the Pali lookout, and is just off of Kaneohe Bay.

I was there in the late 80's and 1990. If I remember correctly, it is Salt Cay that the BRB used to visit....

Yep, Salt Cay it was...I just checked my brochure.
Of course I cant say for sure if this is where GI was filmed, but thats what we were told on the ship, and I know of other people who were told the same thing from various sources.

Gilligans Island was actually filmed at a park in LA. If you go out there now they have a tour that takes you to where it was filmed. We were on the Nassau Snorkelling the guide pointed out to the island that they used for the opening.

GILLIGAN'S ISLAND was shot on CBS's Studio City lot in the Valley, four or five miles away from what is actually Hollywood. The back-lot island lagoon (four feet deep with a working waterfall) has since been dismantled. Everything else was filmed indoors on Soundstage 2 with one camera and no audience. The pilot for the series was filmed on the island of Kauai in Hawaii at Moloaa Bay. Actual outdoor scenes were a combination of Hawaiian Island shots and footage taken at Zuma Beach near Malibu in southern California. The island seen in the show's establishing shots is Coconut Island, one of Hawaii's tiniest, located in Kaneohe Bay on the northeast shore of Oahu. This twenty-five acre tropic island in reality was the site of an eloquent estate, cabins, a beach cabana, a swimming lagoon, and a boathouse that have hosted such dignitaries as Presidents Harry Truman, and Lyndon Johnson. In 1985, the island was put on sale with an asking price of 8.75 million dollars. The island was also featured in the sequel made-for-television movies Rescue from Gilligan's Island (1978); The Castaways on Gilligan's Island (1979); The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island (1981); and the animated cartoon THE NEW ADVENTURES OF GILLIGAN'S ISLAND/ABC/1974-77.

Coconut Island's Hawaiian name is Mokuoloe.
