Anyone have any ideas for "end of year" gifts for teacher and teacher asst.? :teacher:

Gift certificates really are the best bet. If you don't want to give those, cute/pretty notecards are always appreciated. Teachers usually send out a lot of thank you notes.

I'd stay away from bath stuff and, unless you know their favorite scent, candles. That said, my favorite gift from a student was a candle. I just happened to love the scent.

One year my son gave his teacher some sterling star earrings because her room them was stars. She seemed like she really liked them.

I give gc's. One year I really loved the teacher, so I wrote a letter of praise to the principal, and cc'd the teacher.

My daughter's kindergarten class is giving the teacher a scrapbook. Each of the kids was asked to do two pages with a picture of them, their favorite thing they did in school this year and to draw a picture of their best memory from kindergarten. This is her teacher's first year teaching kindergarten so it should be a nice keepsake for her. Both her morning and afternoon classes combined to make the scrapbook. As a bonus, one of the parents who is also an elementary teacher in our district, has said that each year the teachers need to provide a portfolio showing what the students learned. The scrapbook, because of what we've included in it, can be used as her portfolio.

There was a similar thread a couple of weeks ago. The idea was posted about giving a special bookmark, a booklight and a GC to a book store. I thought this was the perfect idea... and have already gotten a "set" for each of DDs 3 teachers. I found $1 bookmarks at Books A Million, booklights at Target on clearance for $2 and a $15 gift card for each.

Hi! 1st grade teacher chiming in :teacher:

I love gift cards. That way, I can choose something that I like, and it's not a candle, picture frame, an ornament, or bath stuff cluttering up my home.

I always give my own children's teachers gift cards as well...either Border's or Starbucks. I'm glad I saw this thread as it reminded me that I have to pick up 5 gift cards for DD14's teachers & another for DS11's teacher.

We've done movie gift cards in the past as well as to the local pizza place. This year to went to a little shop nearby and got beaded bookmarks.

A mug that says #1 Teacher.
Any kind of dessert that has peanuts.
Anything with an apple on it.

I like to give teacher a Starbucks coffee mug with a gift card inside of it. From what I can tell, they really enjoy it.

A gift card.
I have many friends neighbors and relatives that are teachers so I learned early- no mugs, no apple things, no homemade food/candy etc, no ornaments, no bath and body stuff and no candles LOL---so I play it safe and give a gift card!
When my brother was moving he threw out bags of coffee mugs that he had gotten over the years!

My sons are special needs, so we have a lot of teachers to thank at the end of the year. We really try to stick to a budget. I gave my sons resource teacher and para's gift cards for Target. They also have mainstream teachers for their regular class and I gave them movie tickets. One of the home room moms was collecting money to send one of those teachers to a weekend getaway somewhere.:scared1: While I really appreciate the work that the teachers put in, that was not in my budget.

Thanks for the ideas! I knew you guys would help me!!!

My MIL was a teacher and she recieved stuff like that. Anythihg like that she could regift she would. Awful I know but she had a collection of stuff. She really liked gift certificates to the local mall and restaurants.

This year I am on a budget and restaurant.com has some restaurants on there ther are prety popular here so that is what I am doing.

Anything useful...school supplies, gift cards, etc. I think I've spent over $400 of my own money on items for my students this year. Help would be appreciated, or even a gift card for a food place (like Panera) so when I spend money on the kids, at least I can still afford to eat! :rotfl:

I appreciate the sentiment of any gift, but I have to agree that teacher-y gifts (little statues and mugs and picture frames) are not the best. For example, I just lost my teaching job and now I have to face moving my apartment and everything at my school. LOL it will be a challenge!

I forgot to put in my title "things not to buy", oops.

Be careful with Restaurant.com because (at least for places around here) there are some restrictions.

People need to be careful with that. We have at least one restaurant (Damon's) that is on there, but no longer honoring the coupon, gift certificate, or whatever it is that you print out. I know this, because my parents have tried twice in the past month and were told that by the hostess & waitress.

Also they really are not gift certificates- you are basically giving a coupon for money off when they spend a certain amount of money. I would hate to give a gift where the person has to lay out their own money in order to use it----its a coupon not a gift certificate. I had to laugh because I was given one for a local restaurant, it was for 50.00---but i had to spend 100 there in order to use it and since it is normally just my daughter and myself going out to eat it was useless for me. I kept it in my car and one day went to the parking lot of the restaurant, saw a group of 5 people and gave it to them! I would prefer not to get "gifts" that are going to cost ME money to use.

The whole class pitched in and we bought a plant for her yard.
