DS's 8th birthday is coming up in a couple of months and he has no idea what he wants. I think a lot of this has to do with the fact that we don't have regular american TV over here with the commercials or access to Toys R Us etc. Any thoughts on what 8 year old boys like these days would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My DS is very into basketball, football, gamecube,books-any biography about a sports figure-mystery or adventure, chess, magazines age appropriate and clothes(yes he's liking certain style pants and shoes!) He loves magic-his 8th birthday was magic themed. Invention information. His friends like legos,
he doesn't.

My 7 year old boy and his friends are all into WWE wrestling right now. They love the figures and playsets.

He's been asking for Playstation 2 and a WWE game to go with it. His First Communion is in May, and this is what he wants from us. We haven't decided yet whether he's getting it. His grandparents are getting him a movable basketball hoop for our driveway.

He likes anything to do with sports--balls, hockey stick, bats, you name it. If it's a piece of sports equipment, he wants it. In the summer, he'll be looking for air-pumped water guns.

And he likes unusual stationery items. Stuff like multi-color pencils, light-up pens, neon colored paper.

My son will be 8 in 3 weeks. He wants more Gamecube games and whatever Lego I can get him from the new Prisoner of Azkabahn line! He'll also be happy with Borders Gift Cards, but that's so he can buy players guides for the new video games, lol.

My 8 yo is getting into wrestling and we bought him WWE Raw 2 for X-Box and he absolutely loves it. Its his fave. game right now.

Gameboy sp - hand-held game....DS is 9 now and LOVES his! It is small and fits in a pocket and there are lots of kids who take theirs to school. DS also loves the Pokemon games for it.

My son just had his 9th birthday, we got him a Nerf Tech Target, best 15.00 I ever spent!!! It was his favorite gift!! Go to Amazon.com to take a look at it, I highly recommend it! If you don't have it over there, maybe someone could ship it over from over here???

My DS 8, loves small figures-not the horror ones, legos, matchbox cars, spiderman, and he is kind og into gameboy. He really loves anything he can sit and use his imagination with and plays for hours. My diningroom ceiling fan-shut off, lol-house plants, chairs, antique sewing machine; all become part of his play world. I love to sit and watch him and wonder what he is thinking!

My ds will be 8 yo in July. He's already requested another portable cd player, a couple of cd's, and he's slowly adding more to the list until his birthday gets here.;) He also wants a few packs of Pokemon and Yu-ki-oh cards.

Oh, I know how you feel. When we were stationed in Germany for 3 years I felt like we weren't able to keep up with all the new toys coming out. AFN doesn't show commericals, so the only way I could keep up was magazines and AAFES.
I used to go online to Amazon.com and look at toys with my son and let him give me ideas on what he wanted.
He is seven now and he really likes action figures, beyblades, and game cube.

All the neighborhood boys here are talking about Lord of the Rings (either a computer game or a video game, I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know which!) That includes my 8 y/o DS BTW!

My ds will be 8 this year. His favorite things are his gameboy advance SP, bionicles, beyblades, yu-gi-oh cards and lego model kits.

Great thoughts, thanks so much. Keep 'em coming!!!

DS loves magic too, he just participated in our community talent show on Friday night and did about 4-5 tricks, he had a blast.

He has the Game Boy SP and loves it, any suggestion on games?

The Nerf Target thing looks neat, but they will only ship within the US, so that may be an idea for grandma. :)

Any other thoughts????

TIA

my almost 9 year old ds likes Mighty Beans and anything that has to do with sports or space. Also KNex or Legos are big with his set.

shh he's actually getting a crayon maker for his Borthday, for some reason he really wanted this

My nephews love Beyblades and they just got a new "stadium" for them.
As for Gameboy games, Lord of the Rings games are big with them, and they still can't get enough of the Mario games.

My nephew who just rurned 8 is very into his sega/nintendo/gamebox. gameboy...whichever one it is he has!! Can't keep them strainght! He also still really loves to read so I got him started on a new series of books geared for 7-12 year olds...can't remember what they're called, though!! It was a fantasy/adventure type story line....with 3 kids and some mischievous fairies (old-fashioned type...think Arthur Rackham illustrations). He loves them! Also put in some Scooby Doo Hot Wheels cars, as he still loves the cars and Scooby is VERY popular right now.

My son just turned 8 in January. He is also into gameboy and Playstation II stuff, but we limit his playing time. He didn't know what he wanted for his birthday so we got him a cd player (nothing too fancy) and some music. The Harry Potter books are also a great idea for 8 year olds.::yes:: He loves Beyblades, too.

Ds turned 8 in Feb.

Tak and the Power of Juju - Ds got it for GBA and loves it. He was also very excited to play it at a friends house on Playstation.

Bionicles are big for him and he loves his Harry Potter Legos. He didn't really ask for much for his birthday. Not like in years past where the list was longer than he was tall. He did keep giving me the 1-800 for Digidraw and something else on Tv. I finally told him I was not going to order him something from the tv.

Those are a big hit with most boys I know from ages 7 on up to 12 or so.

How about some good old fashioned board games with a modern twist... Star Wars Monopoly, Lord of The Ring Risk etc.
