Say I went to DL or WDW on my bday, received the gift card option, can I use the giftcard toward a ticket on another day or does it have to be merchandise?

Jenn

It has to be for merchandise at one of the Disney stores. But they do offer the option of getting a ticket for a return to the park later in the year.

Let me give another scenario...

Say I am planning to go to WDW June 8-12th and my bday is on the 12th, my last day. I was planning to use some leftover hopper days or buy a ticket that expires since I have to go to the parks June 8-11th. If my bday was at the beginning of my trip I would definitely use the gift option for tickets, but since it is at the end I am not sure what is best. I would love it if I could put it towards a ticket for later use or else I guess I'll be wearing a new Mickey sweatshirt!

I am not sure I understand your question, but I am going to give it a shot. Correct me if I am misunderstanding what you are asking and neither of these answer your question.

Scenario 1
June 8-11: You go to WDW with park-hopper tickets you already have
June 12: You go to WDW on your birthday with no park-hopper days left.

In the above scenario, you would receive free admission on your birthday, not the gift card.

Scenario 2
June 8-11: You go to WDW with park-hopper tickets you already have
June 12: You go to WDW on your birthday with park-hopper you already have. You select gift card with the intention of spending it on tickets at a future date.

This cannot be done. You cannot purchase park tickets with the gift card. You will go home with a new Mickey sweatshirt.

If you have a ticket to get in on the 12th, you can get a ticket to use at some point in the next year. You don't need to get the giftcard to the buy a ticket.

It is my understanding, and I have read the rules more than once, that if one has an AP or a park hopper, then you can select either a gift card, special fast pass or a ticket that will be good for use until your next birthday. Unless one utilizes the ticket within the time frame otherwise. That ticket is for one day/one park.

The Alternative Gift offers are only available to those who already hold any sort of Paid Admission to the Theme Parks of the Disneyland Resort, be it either an unblocked Annual Passport or a Park Ticket.

There is no difference between the two, anyone who's already paid to get in should be able to access the Alternative Offers.

So if I am understanding this correctly, if a person buys a ticket for admission on their birthday, they can choose a gift card, or etc.? It was my understanding that was not the case. This seems a bit confusing to me at the moment.

If I am correct.. The gift card option is only for those the have an AP.

If you have a regular hopper pass you only can get a ticket for one park on day...

The same thing with the fast pass option.. Only for those that have an AP..

If your AP is not valid on your birthday. You use the ticket to get in that day...

This is from a CM when we went on a family memebers B-day. One had an AP and the other didn't.

The AP got a gift card. the other got a 1 day ticket.

This is not correct information.

You can select one of the "alternate gifts" if you have either an AP or a multi-day ticket that is valid on your birthday.

DD,

That was exactly my understanding too. I was wondering, hm........ were some of the rules changed? No. I did not think so.
