Gift suggestions for band director from graduating seniors?

It's been a tradition at our school (and probably other schools also.. hence the reason for the post!) for the graduating seniors to present the Band Director at the school with a special gift. This does not have to be something expensive, and the kids would actually prefer to give her something meaningful. In the past they've done picture collages and a notebook with some of the director's most commonly used sayings.

Can anyone share special gifts that have been presented by graduating seniors?

Thanks so much!

Karen

My kids have been in band since 5th grade. However, I do not think our school gives gifts from the senior class.

But, I have often been sitting in the audience during performances and thought to myself, "I wonder how many tuxedos he has." We have several bands so there are weeks when he conducts a band each night of the week! So maybe a new tux (or a gift certificate to some place like Men's Wearhouse) or a new cumberbun/bow tie/handkerchief???

Also, our band director is in love with his iPad and has all kinds of sheet music and other band stuff on there.

We also have a big marching band and they do all sorts of complicated maneuvers on the field. Each kid gets a sheet with their movements. I don't really understand how the director produces all those movement sheets, but it is from some computer program. So maybe if your school has marching band, your director might like a program like that?? I have no idea how much that is.

Others who are more involved in the band might have better suggestions. However these are a few thoughts from a band mom.

Well, I saw on a facebook page that a group of seniors a few years ago "broke into" (Ok, someone had a key and was in on it, not sure who) the director's house, took a group pic and gave that to him. LOL NOT that I suggest doing that.

Our seniors one year gave the director an ipod touch. I really like the ipad if the price is in the budget. I think last year's seniors gave a gift certificate to playhouse square and another time to a local concert venue.

My ds is a senior this year, so I'll be interested to see what suggestions are given here.

When I graduated (many moons ago!), we gave our madrigal choir teacher a trinket box type thing with a few notes from one of the songs we sang that year engraved on it. I can't remember if we put our grad year also on it or what.

ds18 graduated last year and his sr band group gave the director a group pic (of the seniors) in a frame that can be written on and they all signed their names along with some of the directors favorite sayings. I'm not sure where they got the frame, possibly Hobby Lobby or Halmark Store.

They also snuck into his office early one morning and wrapped EVERYTHING in tin foil because they were the class of 2010! It was a sight to see and very shiny!
