Gift if celebrating child's birthday at DVC resort

Friends of ours had an experience where their child was celebrating a birthday during their stay, and a birthday gift (and balloons) were left in the room upon arrival.

Do you need to arrive on the exact day of the birthday in order to get this welcome/birthday gift? Or does the stay just have to include the actual birthday? Or does it just have to be sometime close to the stay?

The only free b'day gift DS has gotten was a signed picture of his favorite character. I ordered and paid for balloons and a cake.

The birthday balloons/autographed card is one of those cast member's discretion things. We've travelled many times during birthdays/anniversaries/honeymoon and have gotten the balloon bouquet once (at SSR).

On that trip, the CM at check-in noticed that the birthday was noted on the reservation (as it always was) and asked what day the birthday was. I told her that the actual birthday was a week away - but that DS had the misfortune to be turning ten on the first day of school at a brand new school - and so we were celebrating. She asked who his favorite character was and there was a balloon bouquet and autographed card waiting for him.

So I think it's just one of those little magic things that sometimes happens.

A note though - no balloons are allowed on property at AKL/AKV.

We went to HHI for our daughter's 7th birthday this past October. The CM at the desk was making kind smalltalk with the children and Parker told her that she was going to celebrate her birthday. We did not think about it again and there was nothing noted on the ressie as it was a last minute trip.

The next day, which was her actual birthday, we came back to the room after lunchtime and there were balloons and a card signed by all the CMs at the front desk waiting in the room. It was a really sweet gesture and made our daughter so happy!

We were told to request them at the front desk or concierge so we did and they arrived on her birthday.
