Gift Ideas to re-purpose clothing from Mom that passed away

I was going to ask this in the Disboutique Thread but nobody seems to be there anymore.

The mom of children that use to attend my daycare passed away suddenly yesterday. I sew and was thinking it would be nice to make each of the kids something special from a shirt or some article of clothing that was their mom's. Problem is I have no idea what to make them. I would need something for two boys and a girl. Anyone have any ideas?

You take shirts and make it into a blanket or throw.
