Age's 7- 9 gift ideas needed! This age group still likes some toys but they are more difficult than the younger kids to buy for. They are growing up! Post your ideas here!

Did you already buy your 8 year old the best Christmas or Hanukkah present ever? Tell us!

Boys or girls? My DD8 is already asking for American Girl stuff and an iPod for Christmas. She also loves anything crafty, books, and "accessories" like jewelry, headbands, scarves, etc.

When we go to a toy store, she still says she wants Squinkies, ZhuZhu pets, and other toys. But she really doesn't play with the ones we have so I think I'm done buying them.

As for boys... I have no idea. My nephews will be 6 and almost 9 at Christmas, and I have NO clue what to get them! :confused3

These were all hits with my son - Snap Circuits, Night Vision Goggles, Real Wood Construction Set, indoor remote controlled helicopter, Switchblade outdoor remote control flyer, Spy Stuff (safe, motion sensor door monitor), Spy Gear Video watch, Spy Video ATV, Razor Spark scooter

Cranium and Simon....Also Monopoly teaches good math skills. Perfection. Kids this age like competition and sometimes mom and dad loose.
My daughter was never into dolls, this includes barbies, baby dolls, and American Girl dolls so I had to be very creative. Microscopes, telescopes, they like to discover things. My daughter looked at boogers...:scared1::scared1:
Good Luck

DS1, DS7 and DS10 will hopefully get a surprise trip to WDW!!!! Going with friends. Keep your fingers crossed that it will work out.

Otherwise DS7 and DS10 both want a DS3d. Even with the expected price decrease this may be hard to manage. I do like that the DS3d will stream Netflix.

DS7 is hard to shop for. He likes wii, so maybe a new game. DS10 liked spy stuff at that age. Board games are usually okay.

My almost 8 year old DS loves remote control cars and helicopters, hotwheel race track sets, legos, his scooter, card games (uno, skipbo) and board games (right now he's really into Sorry, Trouble and Guess Who.) He also loves electronics and constantly uses his Spongebob MP3 player and digital camera. Mine wants an iPad for Christmas....

Last Christmas my kids were 7 & 8. I went to Home Depot and bought a bunch of PVC piping. I bought all different kinds of connectors also. Then I went to Wal-Mart and bought flat sheets. Now the kids can built their own forts and tents whenever they want. They can make really huge ones, or smaller ones that connect. They have had a lot of fun with them and so have their friends:thumbsup2

My 7yo doesn't play with toys much so I try to limit how much I buy him, he'll ask for them, but then barely touch them after Christmas. He prefers to be outside playing.

This year I think I'm getting him a skateboard/helmet, mp3 player or small ipod. I don't know what else.

This year ours are getting a "surprise" trip to WDW with a stay at the Poly - Club level as a combo birthday and Christmas present. I put "surprise" in quotes because we haven't told them yet but probably will tell them well in advance. They will still get small gifts on Christmas -- like PJs, books, etc. but no major toys, games, or electronics.

DD8 is very into the American Girl stuff right now. She has two dolls already and wants another one for Christmas. Not sure if she's going to get it or not.

I was thinking about and Ipod touch for her and Dh actually got one through work for free the other day. I hadn't even mentioned to him yet that I wanted to get her one. So that was a big score. I think we will get a docking station/speakers for her room and put some music on it for her.

Not sure what else though. Probably some clothes. She doesn't play with toys much except barbies sometimes.

It is a very tough in between age to buy for I think.

Ipod touch. Our DDs got them for christmas last year and they're still used every day almost.

DD8 got an iTouch last year for Christmas (she got ONE gift from us and this was it, LOL). For her 8th birthday in May I got her the Butterfly Garden/Ladybug Land from insectlore.com and her and DD11 LOVED it!! They both want the praying mantis kit and frog kits now, LOL, so they will both get the frogs for Christmas. Praying mantis' only go out in the spring so might wait for that. Also, electronic Monopoly is a HUGE hit with my kids, along with Twister and Connect 4. We have Connect 4 tourneys in our house, LOL. Toy Story Wii game is great.

This year for Christmas, DD8 has on her wish list the frogs kit from insect lore, a season pass to Great America, Zoobles, Littlest Pet Shop Hamster Playground, Barbie dolphin trainer, a Kindle, and then 3 games for her DS-Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga, Learn Math for Grades 1-4, and I-Spy.

Hope that helps!

My 9 yr old DD and her friends are into Monster High Dolls, Squinkes, using their camcorders to make stop motion videos, and the Dork Diaries books.

Our DD8 and 10 will be getting tickets to see Lion King on Broadway this year. We are also running out of ideas and thought an experience would be great. So we are excited to do that.

They also like AG, books, crafty stuff, and scrapbooking. They would love a Nook Color, but I am getting one first!!!

I'm a big fan of buying magazine subscriptions for kids. Kids that age seem to love getting stuff in the mail, in my experience, and that gives them something to look forward to every month. If you buy through ebates.com, you can get a lot of subscriptions super cheap.
