What do you get? She is in her own home, but has constant care. She can't see very well and is confused due to a stroke. She can't get around well. I like to periodically send gifts since I can't visit her often. I've done flowers, candy, and cookie bouquets. I also send tons of pictures of the kids (her only great grandchildren). Christmas ideas would be great, too. Thanks!

Find out what she likes to read and get her some books on CD. If she can't see very well then this might be a good idea.

A new robe, Slippers, a bed jacket

Or moisturizer some new gloves?

There are a lot of tv shows on DVD now. Did she enjoy anything in particular in the past? Lawrence Welk was a favorite of my grandmother's. Even if she can't see well she might enjoy the music.

Get her a nice throw blanket. Could you arrange to have someone come do her nails or hair? Not sure if she'd be interested in that or not, but she may enjoy it.

My Mom who is elderly just got a a really Beautiful Chennile Bed Jacket from my Aunt. She said she got it on QVC.

Freckl, my grandma loved Lawrence Welk. Bing Crosby is another favorite from that generation. I like the slippers idea. My 90-yr old grandma loved a pair of Crocs someone bought her last year. Sometimes their feet swell, and comfortable shoes are difficult to find.

I bought my grandma a bathrobe a couple of years ago and she abslutely loved it. That is something they can wear a lot. Even if they have one, which they probably do, it's nice to have a new one.
Grandparents also love home made things from kids.

My grandmother is 92 and mostly blind from macular degeneration. Last Christmas I got her a "fruit of the month" gift that she says she absolutely loves. I think that is what we are getting her this year as well.

I am am getting my grandparents- meat. This year their medicare went up $300 a month. I know that they are tight for money.

My sister is giving them a gas card.
My mom gave them a cell phone lasst year, and pays the bill every month.

We have gotten everyone together for something big that they needed such as a dryer.

They have received clothes, blankets etc in the past. But, they like to save it for use later.

My grandma just wants us to visit her. I try to call her every day. She hass said that it is what means the most to them. Having a family that loves and acknowledges them. Visiting is a the top of their list.

Perhaps an easy to use cd player and some older music by singers that she loves? My mom also liked it when I got her some cd's with old radio shows.

Along the lines of the PP who suggested buying some of the necessities...how about a gift card to the grocery store? For many seniors on a fixed income, these types of gifts can make a big difference.

My grandmother will be 90 this month too!! The gifts I usually get her are gift cards for the grocery store, local newspaper subscription, gift card to where she gets her hair done. She doesn't need any more "stuff".

She's got plenty of lap blankets, robes, slippers, lotion and candles. She loves candy and watching the Cleveland Indians.:thumbsup2 She used to go to bingo every week, sometimes I would get her gift certificates to bingo.

Someone once got her a phone with large light up buttons and a volume control. She LOVED that gift. She also loved the little space heater she got. She's usually cold, and she uses it in the bathroom when she takes her bath.

Before my grandmother passed away, we used to make her up a gift basket every year. She was living in an assisted care type place so she could not get out by herself to buy things. We would put things in it such as her favorite powder, hard candy, scratch tickets, homemade banana bread and muffins, toiletries, etc. We would wrap each item separately and she really enjoyed opening them. We enjoyed putting it together for her, too.

We are buying my grandparents a digital picture frame, gift cards to the supermarket and sending them meat from Omaha Steaks. Last year we gave them a cd player (which they refer to as a "boom box" :rotfl: ) and we are planning to buy more cd's of songs they grew up with. Good luck :)

I second this!

My Mom is 91 and lives with us. She loves her CD player. She loves the old music + Josh Groban, Charlotte Church, the Tenors.

We also put together a digital frame for her 90th birthday. I need to update it. (She's a little nervous about operating this, but enjoys the pictures.)

Luckily, her eyesight is still good, so she receives a large-print book from Zooba every month. And I take her to the library every other week.

I like the music or shows she can at least listen to, like Lawrence Welk.
We've done the digital pic frame and also the frame with the kids' voices recorded. Sadly, she's really gone downhill fast the last few months.:sad1:

I have to also suggest the digital picture frame. I got one for my grandmother and we LOADED it with pictures. There were so many that she could watch it for hours at a time. It also came with a cool remote that was easy to use.

We refresh the pictures every few months and she loves it :thumbsup2

I saw these new CEIVA frames at Best Buy this weekend. You can actually update them (via the Internet or even just a phone line) remotely. So you could send pictures to her any time you wanted. That could be ultra cool for someone who can't get out much anymore.

I know it requires a monthly subscription but I'm putting it on my list from Grandma this year :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 I agree with this post. Find out her favorite store and just buy a GC.
