My brother-in-law will be 40 on Wednesday and I need some ideas what to get someone for their 40th birthday. I don't know if I should get a gag gift or not.
Thanks in advance.

What sort of hobbies does your brother in law have? What does he enjoy? For a gag gift, if he is the type of person to have a laugh when he recieves it, then that would be good and funny, but if not, then stick to the regular present.
If he golfs, you can get him a golf certificate for a round of golf.
If he fishes a new tackle box.
It depends on his likes.

things i've done (in differing quantities):
~ 40 gold dollars in a nice case (men's jewelry box?)
~ a BIG box (i used the DS princess for 21yo nephew), filled with shredded newspaper, crumbled "fake dollars", and 40 crumpled "real" singles ~ i included made up directions for a "Find George" (washington) game
~ wrap a present entirely in cash (just make sure they don't "rip the paper"), with nice ribbon & a bow

not mine, but one i liked:
a dress shirt & tie, entirely made up of singles

Well, I'm going to be 40 next year and I'd like to get dinner gift certificates. They're always appreciated, and for a big birthday like that one, a little leisure dining and a nice drink would be very uplifting.;)

I think a restaurant gift certificate is a fabulous idea!

Personally gag gifts make me gag. Does he like going to the movies, get him a gc. Or something hobby related? Book store gc, golfing, fishing, etc.???
