I need some Christmas gift ideas for a 6 year old. Our church is sponsoring children in the community and I need to buy a gift for a 6 year that I don’t know and who could be a boy or a girl based upon their name.

Any gift ideas good for a 6 yr old boy or girl would be appreciated.

Board games? My dd6 and ds 7 both like connect 4, bingo, flipping frogs, ants in the pants, quirkle.

Or one of those crayola things that light up when you draw?

Do you have a budget?

ETA-I thought of a few more

Portable dvd player and movie?

Rainbow in your room?

Moon in your room?

Books? My ds and dd love Junie B Jones, Magic Tree House

Wow, thats hard not knowing the gender. Most toys are boy/girl gifts.

Let's see.
Crayola Items - There is a make your own crayon kits, or Color Globe
Books
Puzzles
Aqua Sand
Board Games

Can you ask a church rep if they know - I'm sure you could get a better gift if you knew. I'm sure its weird to ask though.

I'd say boys - Anything with cars, monster trucks, lego's, toy story
Girls - Barbie, Pretend Play items,

I asked the person heading it up, but they don't know and just said buy what you think is best. The children are from struggling families from the surrounding local community, so I was thinking the safest way to handle is not to guess and choose something a boy or girl would be happy with.

It would be so easy if I knew though.

How about a knock off Pillow Pet? Christmas Tree Shops (if you have them in your area) have them for $10.00 and they are absolutely adorable. Then, you would have money left over for a game or a small box of legos.

are you in a cold area? how about a nice snuggly throw blanket? and some games or art supplies? color books?

I have a 6 year old girl and I think that a beginning science kit would be fun. That was one of the items on our gift tree that I purchased and it was for a 1st grader, it is what they asked for. Art kits are always good at that age too. Either of these you can pick up at Micheals if you have one near you. Legos are good for both as well, my DD6 plays with her legos several times a week.

my one suggestion would be to avoid anything that requires batteries. Even if you do provide batteries initially, they will die and once they do, the item will basically be useless. Generally, struggling families do not have extra money for batteries for toys. just my .02. :goodvibes

zhu zhu pets

They are in the girls section but DS7 flipped for them a year ago...

Thank You, that's something to keep in mind and glad you brought that up.

I would go with legos or zhu zhu pets. I have a 5 year old girl and a 7 year old boy. I would be leary of art stuff, because I know my DS would be dissapointed with that. The Science kit sounds fun. Board game are good too. My kids always seem to like the sponge bob or toy story theme ones. They both also asked for pillow pets and most of them would go for a boy or a girl. I think I would go with the pillow pet because they seem to be a hot item this year.

I would get a nice plastic box and fill it with tons of art supplies. Coloring books, construction paper, markers, crayons glue, scissors, stickers, foamies, playdough and then grab a book and stuffed animal from Kohls.

Club penguin stuff...that works for boy or girl and my kids love it. you could get a month game card and some of the toys.

This time of year you can get the kiddie games for $5 each. I'd get Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Hi-Ho Cherry-o, Ants in Pants, Don't break the Ice, Cooties, etc. I did this a couple of years ago...bought 4 games. The kiddo who got them was thrilled!

As a teacher, I'd also add a nice storybook to the pile. You can get some great deals at the major booksellers in their clearance areas. A general storybook would be good for a boy or girl.

Magnet set still entertains my DD11. DS had one as well.

DS also had a marble run set -- would make things turn, etc. -- he really liked it at that age.

You are so sweet to share with others at Christmas. :flower3:
Card games-Old Maid, Go Fish
Zhu Zhu Pets
Hats & Gloves in neutral colors
McDonalds Arch Card
M&Ms
Yo Yo
Kids usually like lots of small things to unwrap :goodvibes
