I see people on here all the time talking about their friends' and families' jaw-droppingly rude behavior. A lot of the things I see I sometimes have a hard time believing. I got a text the other day from a friend that I wouldn't have believed if I heard somebody else tell about it, but I promise this is 100% true. A friend of mine who I've known all my life but I'm not particularly close to anymore sent out a text, presumably to all of her contacts that said the following:

Just letting you know that a very important date is coming up one month from today...my 40th birthday! Start preparing now. I'm expecting fabulous gifts. :)

I told my husband that she probably just ensured that her "fabulous gift" was now going to be an etiquette book!

Ewww...if she thought she was being cute/funny, she was wrong.

Oh, how tacky! I'd like to say I'm shocked but I hear about that sort of thing more and more often lately. :sad2:

I guess the fact that you're not that close to her is what's making it weird? Because I really don't see anything wrong with it. My friends and I say stuff like that to each other all the time and I start counting down to my birthday MONTHS in advance.

I might say something like that too, but with a wink at the end to indicate I wasn't really serious.

I agree w the above posters- I'm sure she wasn't serious;and you might be a little oversensitive? Just MHO...

But the fact that she took the time to send out a text one month from her birthday implies to me that she is expecting fabulous gifts, wink or no wink. I mean, why else would you do something like that?

to be funny-and just maybe to remind people her bday is coming up-she just might like a few txt's and congratulatory emails that day-40 is a rough one.

That is kinda weird. It's the kind of thing that I might send to my kids and my siblings--IN JEST. I always tell them it's a National Gift-Giving Holiday. but I would never send a message like that to others. I don't have any friends who are close enough not to be put off by that message.

PSA--the next National Gift-Giving Holiday is Sept. 28, for those who need reminding.:rotfl:

Because she doesn't take life too seriously and thought it was funny? It's also possible that you weren't meant to be included on the text...

IDK. I "get" my friends and they "get" me.

Ummmm I have a friend with a bday in October, she starts planning her party (and gift requests) in April...not kidding, she will send at least one text a month about her party until the day OF her party....needless to say we don't go all that much and when we do we just give her a bottle of wine. LOL

I had someone do the same thing to me, except it said mother's day is 2 weeks away what are you getting me?? smiley smiley smiley

Um excuse me? last time I checked, I am not your child, and I am not getting you anything for as you called it "forgot protection"

People amaze me.

edited to add: it was 100% serious. She came to me after mother's day questioning why i didn't get her a card or "small gift"

So was 25, but I certainly didn't do anything like that.

Is she having a party to celebrate her birthday? I don't see anything offensive in what she wrote. :confused3 Sounds like she was joking.

So, what are you getting her?;)
