Gift for people buying my house - ideas?

We just sold our house last week!! We left a congrats on your new house card, all local takeout menus where we used to eat, and things I considered necessities, such as a swifer for the laminate floors.
Maybe a little basket of things that were important to you with your child

When we sold our late grandmother's home it was very emotional for all of us- I bought the new owner a plant and a card and most everyone in the family (except a couple of cousins) thought it was cheesy and ridiculous. I just wrote in the card that I hoped she made as many joyful memories in that house as we were taking with us.

I think a list of numbers and a gift card for a restaurant with take out/delivery would be really appreciated! :thumbsup2

I love your idea about the baby things! We too sold our house to an expectant couple.

We bought the couple a new mailbox (the durable green plastic kind - you know the one I asked my DH to put in for years before we moved :rotfl:) and a $50 Lowe's gift card. I also bought a little pink outfit for the soon to be born baby girl.

Congrats on selling your house!

I have to say that is an incredibly thoughtful gesture. I would go with a little something for the baby and a GC to a restaurant with take out or delivery service. I would also, if you have time, buy a pretty journal and write down any pertinant information in regards to the house (ie: plumbers, electricians, paint colors and brands used in the house (that was very helpful when we moved into our house) and maybe some local information (ie: good restaurants, stores, points of interest). Then after you have put your information they can use the rest of the book to put their history in. We keep our journal and every time we have some work done on the house we log the date, the vendor who does the work, what work was completed, the price and the compay's phone number and address, it is a great reference tool for us.

A binder with all the manuals for the dishwasher, garage door opener, alarm system, trees/shrubs/flowers planted on the property, paint colors, major receipts for plumbing/electrical/etc. That's what we got from the previous owners of our house who got it from the previous owners before them. We're adding to it as we replace stuff.

We were left a beautiful wool rug that there is no way I would have spent the $$ on.

When we got our house, the previous owners left us take out menus of local places. I thought this was a nice gesture since we were new to the town.

Also a nice gift would be one of those stepping stones for the garden. The craft stores sell them to make, they can put the baby's name on it and add to if if they have more children or as their famil grows in other ways!

The owners of my house left me a huge resin **** -- sorry, rooster. His name is Terrence the Protector. It is hideously tacky, but I refuse to get rid of a gift that was so... thoughtful. They also left an intense aroma of dog urine, but we were able to get rid of that when we completely gutted the house.

Seriously, though, I have a beautiful Ansel Adams print hanging in my kitchen that my cousin got for me. It is framed in a neutral color, so it could have gone in any room of my house. I love it.
