Gift for friend moving from New Jersey to Arkansas?

I like the book idea for the humor side! They are moving to Rogers I believe? near Bentonville.

Get them a giftcard to http://www.aqchickenhouse.net/
I went to AR for business and the company I was visiting asked where we wanted to go eat and I said I want the best local food that you can't get in NJ. They took us to AQ Chicken house. The fried chicken and fried pickles were awesome!

Hello from Rogers AR!
No doubt your friends are coming to work on the Walmart team--- it's why we're all here! :)

If you need any ideas on what shops or restaurants are close for a GC for the basket, let me know.

Some places we have within a few minutes drive-
Restaurants:
Ruths Chris Steakhouse
Bonefish
PF Changs

shops:
J Jill
Coldwater creek
White house Black Market
Chicos
Ann Taylor

Kids places:
The Little Gym
Pump it up

Those are just a few of the National chains we have.

I hope your friend loves Arkansas- we have moved around a lot and yes it is different than Jersey-- but it is a wonderful area to raise a family.

Oh and please tell them that "calling the Hogs" is certainly not enjoyed by everyone.
(We're Florida Gator fans!) :)

Actually she works for Colgate, but she will be in charge of the Walmart account : )

They are actually down there now with the whole family showing the kids the house etc.

Thanks for the list!

I grew up in Pope County and my mama still lives there! Small dis world huh?

Now my husband insists on a stop at exit 101 which is where the liquor store is.

The Blackwell stores would probably go out of business if Pope county ever became wet.

We moved from NJ to TN when I was 10 (I'm now 46!) but I remember a "going away party" for my parents and someone gave them a large photo of the beach where we lived (LBI) and it was framed in a driftwood frame. My mom still has that photograph.

Maybe something like that? A reminder of something special from your area. Shame you can't send them cheesesteaks and pizza--they're gonna miss both, a lot.

The pizza thing is already an issue! They are down there now to show the kids the house etc. Today her son says, I want good pizza for lunch today not the bad pizza they have here. LOL

:lmao:

I'm sure they would. We would bring cases of beer and Hennessy Cognac for friends of my parents. It was a lot cheaper here. They joked with us that we were their favorite book-leggers.;)

We haven't been back to the Russellville area since we moved my dad out in 2001 after my mom's death.

:sad2: Not sure why it is like that but it is definitely a problem!

We have 2 places here that have good pizza. One is Big Ed's in Oak Ridge (about an hour away) and a small Italian place which is hit or miss, but never horrible.

There are no really good cheesesteaks here. Charley's Steakery (a franchise), Lenny's (a franchise), and that same little Italian place, which again, is hit or miss.

I'm 46 and you have no idea how much I have missed those 2 things for the past 36 years!:sad2:

In New Jersey it is illegal for anyone to pump their own gas. An attendant has to do it. I had no idea before the DIS.

I believe if you try they throw matches at you until you either stop or burst into flame...whichever comes first.

:rotfl: I'll never forget when DH & I stopped for gas in NJ for the first time a few years ago and this guy INSISTED on pumping our gas & we were flabergasted!

I think I may use a few of the ideas and a make a basket of them! Thanks everyone!

I did this for a friend and her dd who were moving from NJ to Florida...I made a basket with: "Jersey Girl" t-shirts (Walmart and Shoprite in NJ sell them); Bruce Springsteen/Bon Jovi cds; Taylor Ham!!; a NJ mug and keychain that I got at a rest stop on the Turnpike.

I really like the photo idea someone posted above! :)

Taylor Ham, . In South Jersey it is Pork Roll, . Taylor Ham sounds so much more appetizing though.

Years ago, I had a client who came to the college here who was from NJ. (Our local college draws many students from NJ and FL :confused3 --in fact, the guy I went to work for in my first job also did that and stayed here after college) Anyway, my client would go home to NJ and come back with Tastykakes for me. I'd go to NJ and bring him Taylor Ham home.
Carrying a Taylor Ham on the plane, :rotfl:
Anything to satisfying a craving!

Gift certificate to The Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, AR.
That's a nice idea. I love Eureka Springs and couldn't pack quick enough if we had to move to Arkansas. That's my only exception to Texas. :)

Not only because of the gas but also due to the AquaNetl. We're a very combustible state. ;)

I would suggest sending along a scrapbook of photos of friends and places. Maybe you could get in touch with their other friends and ask each of them to bring a photo or write down a memory they share with the family who is moving. Include pictures from their town, places they frequent, etc.
