Gift for christening?

A small and personalized keepsake is my preference. Religious jewelry to be kept for them to wear once school-aged is nice, and the compass sounds lovely. For godparents, our family tradition is a silver baby cup; I still have mine, though it's a wee bit dinged up from many household moves and handling by generations of babies.

For a friend’s child, I usually do a small gift plus a card with some money—it feels personal but practical. Clothes or something cute works too

Living in a very catholic area, physical gifts are rarely given, used to be savings bonds back in the day but today checks are given for sacraments, baptism, first communion, confirmation, marriage. Friends of ours with large local families accrued nice college funds!
