Does anybody have any good ideas on a gift for my DH's boss (es). A little background...he works for a small company and there is the owner, HR manager, and manager and then just 4 additional regular employees. It is a weird situation where there seems to be too many bosses...lol! Anyway, we need a budget Christmas gift idea. In the past before the bad economy there were more employees and they all chipped together for a larger gift...do not think that will happen this year. So I need gift ideas and recommendation regarding whether or not to buy a gift just for the owner or also for the two managers. TIA:goodvibes

I would suggest a cookie/baked goods basket or a liquor basket. A larger one for the boss and smaller for the managers.

Another idea is a book themed towards the job (ie: I work for lawyers and in the past I have bought books "Winning at Trial" etc)

Food or drinks usually go over well. Chocolate or cookies, or maybe sugared almonds.

I would definetly say food or drinks rather than something material.

Champagne is always my go to when in doubt. :thumbsup2

I make dark chocolate orange truffles every year and when packaged nicely, they make a very pretty gift, and they have always been well-received. In fact, around this time, DH's office mates start dropping hints that they hope they are getting them again this year. So something like that or a bottle of nice wine would probably work.

thebeesknees, I would love that recipe. I would stay away from alcohol gifts and stick with baked goods or maybe a giftcard to dunkin donuts or a favorite lunch place?

I was at Sam's Club about two weeks ago and for $8 they had a bottle of champagne (from Spain so actually "sparkling wine" :rotfl:) and two glasses. Came in a nice box with rope handle. That's what I'm giving my co-workers and my direct boss.

For the person who asked, here is the recipe. It takes awhile to do, so I triple it because a single batch disappears too quickly and as long as everything is out, why not just do it in the first place? :lmao: Also, a triple batch uses conveniently 2 bags of good chocolate chips, and I'm all for nice round numbers! Seriously, they are so good they evaporate around here, so I have to box them up for everyone as soon as they are set so my DH and kids don't scarf them all down. Enjoy!

Chocolate Orange Truffles

Filling:
1/4 cup unsalted butter
3 T heavy cream
4 1 oz. squares semisweet chocolate, finely chopped ( I sub good quality choc. chips)
2 T orange juice concentrate
1 tsp. grated orange zest

Coating:
4 1 oz. squares semisweet chocolate, finely chopped or semisweet choc. chips
1 T. vegetable oil or Para-wax

In a medium saucepan, bring butter and cream to a boil over medium high heat. Remove from heat. Add chocolate, OJ concentrate, and orange peel; stir until melted and smooth. Pour truffle mixture into a shallow bowl. Chill until firm, about 2 hours.

Line 2 baking sheets with waxed paper. Shape chilled truffle mixture by rounded teaspoons into small balls. Place on prepared baking sheets. Chill until firm, about 30 minutes.

In the top of a double boiler set above simmering (not boiling) water, heat chocolate and oil, stirring until melted and smooth. Transfer chocolate mixture to a bowl. Cool completely.

Drop truffles into melted chocolate mixture. Using 2 forks, lift out truffles tapping gently on side of bowl to allow excess coating to drip off. Return truffles to baking sheets lined with waxed paper, and chill until set. Optional: sprinkle with specialty sprinkles just after dipping or drizzle with white chocolate.

In most work settings it is inappropriate for the employee to give gifts to supervisors. As a manager I give gifts to the employee to thank them for their hard work, but gifts the other way would seem like bribes. If your DH wants to bring a gift, I would give an office gift of maybe bring in breakfast for the entire group or something along those lines.

This was my thought on the matter too. I've always thought that it was inappropriate to give your boss a gift.

Well we always go together and get restaurant gift cards for the attorneys.
