Can someone explain to me what the deal is with gift cards? I live in Canada and am always reading posts about people using gift cards. Couple things I was wondering...

1. When I do travel to WDW, I always get a package which includes some version of the dining package. Can I use the gift cards to pay for my trip?

2. Being Canadian, I cant use the Vacation Savings Account. However, I do travel to Detroit and a Disney store monthly. Can gift cards purchased there be used at WDW?

Sorry for the silly questions. Thanks in advance.

1. Yes
2. Yes

Keep in mind, though, that unless you're getting the gift cards at a discount, there's really no advantage to using them. And it's more complicated than just using a credit card.

Where can I get some cards at discount. Can you explain a little more about "its more complicated than just using a credit card" please.

There are a few ways to get Disney Gift Cards at a Discount! Some are as follows:

1. Have a Target Red Card (Target stores credit or debit card) and use this to purchase Disney Gift Cards. You get a 5% discount
2. Purchase them at Sam's Club. Theres a discount on the cards there. I'm not sure of the amount...but normally for $150 they are like $142.50 - $145 or so.
3. Purchase Target gift cards for a discount on various sites that sell gift cards at a discount and then use those to purchase the Disney Gift Cards.

I personally use 2 programs called Swagbucks and Perk TV. You collect points and then turn the points in for gift cards. I get Target Gift Cards from both sites and then purchase Disney Gift Cards from Target online with those Target Gift cards and have my Target red card linked to the purchase so I get another 5% off my purchase. I think of this as free money, because I pay nothing for them!

Thanks to some awesome tips on this message board to how to use these 2 programs, my Disney Vacation this past May was pretty much paid for by these Disney Gift Cards!

1. Since you're from Canada, I'm not sure what you're options are.
2. Sometimes gift cards don't get activated properly. And if you have to cancel anything, the money will go back on the gift card, so you have to make sure that you keep the gift cards after you've used them. And, since gift cards only come in limited denominations you'll need to use a ton of them to pay for your trip. It's just way easier to use one credit card and be done with it.
