Gift cards?

We're going be there for Christmas and my son's 5th bday so I figured instead of carrying gifts back and forth to WDW by plane I would give my sons (3 & 5) each a gift card and let them roam the stores the whole vacation, and when the card is up then they can't get anything else. That way they not only learn the value of money they also get to make their own choices like big boys.

My question is whether or not the variety in the WDW stores is big enough for children to have a few toys that they will be happy with - my boys aren't really Disney fans (DS4 does love Cars not the movie just that they're cars lol and he likes Pirates again not the movie just pirates!) so i'm wondering if they have stuff unrelated to Disney? I know theres a lego store at DTD which they'll love but other than that?
And do the gift cards have restrictions for which stores they can be used at?
Oh and finally what is a good limit for the card I was thinking $200 each, how much do the souveniers and toys cost usually?

I can't say for sure, but I don't think you can use it at the lego store. I would still bring a few gifts for them to open from Santa (if you guys do Santa) I know my little one (and her older sibs would've too) be disappointed without something to open from Santa on Christmas morning.

we usually get DS and DD gift cards for our visits to the world. I get each one $100 via a Disney Card and a $50 Visa Gift card from the credit union. My son loves to go to Lego and they don't take the disney card, so last trip I took his $100 Disney card and gave him cash to use at LEGO.

You're right I should get at least one thing wrapped I can see my son now looking at the card and then at me like i've lost my mind :rotfl:
my oldest's bday is the 26th and this year for christmas i overdid it so much with the plan that I would take him to the store for his bday-- he didn't want to go!! He told me that he already had toys lol
Okay i'll do small amounts for the disney cards then and just give them some money to spend that will teach them the value of money probably better than a card would
