You can use a Disney gift card to pay for your souvernirs onboard right? The card does not have to be placed onto your on board account?

If you go to guest services they can apply it to your on-board account. You then use your KTTW card to charge.

Only way to use gift card is to have it applied to your account at GS. They do not accept any form of payment at stores other than your KTTW card:)

When I was there the girl at the gift store said they take plastic but no cash. A guest wanted to make a purchase but did not want his wife seeing it on the room acount.

Your stateroom key card is the only method of payment accepted on board the ship. You can bring your gift cards to Guest Services, as mentioned above, and it will be applied to your account. The stores will not accept the gift cards, nor any other cards besides the room key.

This is what we are doing, we are purchasing a Disney gift card every 2 weeks at our local Albertson’s market, which we will apply to our shipboard account. It’s a painless way to save for your cruise. Just be absolutely sure your gift card says it’s good for DISNEY CRUISE LINES!!!!!!!!!!!

UGH!!!!!!:headache::headache: I was wanting to keep everyone's spending money separate with a Disney Gift card for each. Oh, well, I guess I will just have to keep up with everyones spending more. That really gripes me though.

Hopefully they still do it this way but the last time I took my 3 children I wanted to keep their stuff seperate too. Well they give you a printout that seperates everyones charges by their name. They all use the KTTW card but just keep an eye on it at the guest services desk. We had no issues with them staying in their budget by keeping an eye on it. Have a great cruise!

It just shocks me that they won't take a Disney gift card on the ship. And by the way, is there any Disney gift cards that can't be placed onto your onboard account?

They take disney gift cards and disney dollars. You just need to go to gs to have it applied to your account. I would also watch the charges to the room. Things bought in the store, we never had trouble with being charged to the right person. Other things like drinks, the Spa and buying outside of the store never seemed to be charged to the right person!

Well I think that it is just down right ridiculous that you can't use a Disney gift card without first putting it on your onboard account. Just ridiculous!!!

It makes it much easier and safer for all guests. As a previous post mentioned, only your KTTW card is accepted on board. To add gift cards/cash/Visa Rewards cards/etc to your account is a short, painless experience. And you can stop by GS and get a complete printout of all activity on your account at any time. It really is hassle free once you get used to it.:thumbsup2

Much easier and safer, do what? I understand the no cash policy, but my gosh! Oh, well I guess I will just deal with it. I will be on the Dream, so I will be happy.

On our first cruise I wanted to treat DH, as it Was Christmas, to a treatment in the spa. No way of doing this unless he knew how much it was. I was upset at the time but it didn't last for long once I got up to the cove.

Now We always manage to cruise around his birthday, anniversary or something and I manage to surprise him. I put our joint credit card for his name to charge for the family and my own for me to charge his surprises to. We just make sure that we never sign anything with my kttw card and ALWAYS use his. My sister also has her own Credit card to hers as we all stay in one suite.

You can charge as many credit cards to as many people in the staterooms as you want (one per person). Just make sure you use the right KTTW card. Heaven forbid if that Palo or cove drinks bill got on mine :scared1::scared1::scared1:

So if I got everyone say a $150 Disney gift card for thier own personal use, I could link each person's KTTW card to their own personal gift card and not directly to the onboard account?

No the gift cards would all go onto the one account for the stateroom, unlike having different credit cards associated with each KTTW card.

However, you can set a spending limit on kids' accounts (according to the Passporter), so if you want to limit them to $150 each, you can note that on their KTTW card/account.

The only time you need any cash is in ports (or credit cards), and to buy stamps at the PO on castaway Cay. Everything else (all stores and bars) on CC only accept the KTTW but to purchase stamps, you must have cash.

From what I have found if you buy Disney gift cards online there are two types . One you can only use to purchase from the online store and the other you can use for anything (online store, disney store, all the parks and cruise.) It was very clear when I ordered my last one online which one was only for the online store.

The ones I purchase at the Disney store or at other outlets like grocery stores have all be fine for the cruise.

Disney stores and online store used to be owned by another company, but disney owns both of them again, so I wonder if that's different again?

Just to clarify: you can NOT set a spending limit for a person's KTTW card. It is either all or nothing for charging. YOu can stop at Guest Services anytime to get a print out to check the account to see how much each person has charged to their KTTW card.
