Gift Cards at resort

Am I able to add my gift cards to the room when I get there on arrival so it’s like a credit on my account and saves me taking gift cards around.

No.
What you can do is use your magic band to charge back to your room reservation and then go to the front desk daily/every other day to pay it off with gift cards.
To me adding the gift cards to the Disney gift card website and then using the main gift card at the parks would be the easier way.

No. You would either need to pay with the Disney Gift Card at the time of purchase, or have the Front Desk use the Disney Gift Card to pay down an existing balance.

Sounds like Its Easier carrying them

I have about 2k in gift cards and thought it might be safer trying to do it that way incase I lost it etc and then someone used it

Ugh unless they were gifted to me I'd never buy that much with of gift cards!
Let me guess you got 5% off? That really only saved you $100... not worth it IMO.
I'd consolidate them onto the gift card website and then take one card in your wallet and put one card into the resort safe.
Think about it as though it were your ID or credit card or debit card and you shouldn't be losing it...

The Disney Gift Card website does not work as a wallet, it is simply for combining lower value amounts onto 1 card.

Be aware mobile ordering doesn't go through your MB and you will need either a credit card or gift card to order. If using a gift card, you have to enter it each time. One suggestion is to keep the card number as a note on your phone so you can easily copy/paste it.

I have done this several times when checking in. I guess you just have to get the right CM at the desk.

I understand a hold is put on your credit card ($100??) and if you go over that your card will automatically be charged and another hold will be put on the card. So... if it is a $100 hold and during our day in the park we go over that - very likely- our cc will be charged before we have the opportunity to go to the front desk and use the gift card to pay down the balance. Correct? and do we know what the hold amount is?

No, if you go over $100 a new hold will be placed on your CC for the amount you went over. If you charge less than $100 that day, nothing will change. If you use GC to pay it down the balance that night, the hold won't increase beyond that $100. Your CC won't actually be charged until the morning you're scheduled to check out. So paying down the balance with GC every day or every few days can keep the hold at a minimum and prevent your CC from being charged.
