Gift Cards and refunds

This may or may not be the right place to ask this question. My wife and I have reserved our trip for 4th of July next year. YAY!!!!! Question that I have is there is a slight possibility of us having to cancel it, however unlikely. We placed deposit using credit card as usual. My question is if we once a week picked up a gift card during our grocery trip and applied it to our balance on a weekly basis to just pay some of it down if we have to cancel how would we receive the refund of the gift card amount we have paid? Would we receive gift card in return or cash or to the deposit credit card. Thinking it just might be a fun way to Disneyfy our grocery trip by picking up a gift card for it every week and plopping it on the balance. We can certainly just take the credit card and pay a little on it each week as well, just thought the gift card method might be more fun. LOL Thanks in advance for the answers. Appreciate it.

It would go back on the gift card that you used. The only downside to using the gift card to pay, is if you need to cancel and not reschedule. Some people would rather have cash in pocket than gift cards that they may not use right away.

All refunds go back to the original form of payment. So your deposit will go back on the credit card and each payment that was made with a GC will go back on the GC used. So, don’t throw them out!

You can also combine them on the Disney gift card site before making a payment. This way if you cancel or change your reservation you don't have as many cards to keep track of.
