Gift cards and DVA question

When you enter the gift card no into the DVA, the value of the physical gift card becomes zero, right? Meaning, if the no or the actual gift card would then fall in the wrong hands, they can't do anything with it, correct?

The GC will show a zero balance but it will not be inactivated. If someone gets their hands on it, they won't be able to access the money in your DVA account, if that's what you're afraid of. But if you want a refund from your DVA, Disney sends the monies back to the form of payment which was used to fund the account. If you no longer have the GC(s), they will issue a new GC with the monies on it, but it will take much longer to get it.

Correct. Think of your Disney Vacation Account as a virtual "gift card." The gift card funding your account isn't linked to your account, the funds are just transferred from the physical card to the virtual card. If you request a refund, the money will go back onto the physical card.

If you ever lose it though, it actually won't be a huge deal since you do have the option of requesting a new physical Disney Gift Card from the account. But this process is much longer and I would keep the gift card just in case (you never know what crazy situation can happen if it falls into the wrong hands).
