LOVE your Mickey in the sand!

I certainly understand that this isn't for everyone and a majority of people order these for mere convenience and I certainly get that as I've been tempted. But after seeing more pictures, I'm just convinced I'm getting more bang for my buck by doing my own. Just thought I'd throw out ideas of what I'm doing for my DD (4) for our trip.
Blue sand bucket w/shovel (large) - $1.00 at Michaels - .50 after 1/2 off coupon
Mickey pirate plush from Disney Store online w/20% - $10.36
mickey's treasure chest w/various goodies from disney store w/20% $16.76
glow in the dark bracelets (get a whole tube for $1.00 at Michael's will use 50% coupon) - .50
Will buy M&M's (large bag for all of us or smaller bags) - $2.50 to $3.00
perhaps a few more snacks he likes.
Total thus far = $32.00
For us, the cruise in itself is a enough but to make a bit more special, we just want to tailor it to the cruise so he has momentos from this experience. We may also have an ear hat which is another $13 (with 20% off) which would bring it to approximately $47.00 (not including personalizing ears).
Now he's not getting trinket stuff as he has enough toys/trinkets but more substantial mementos for the money.
Nothing against Shirley and what she does by any means, just letting you know what can be done on your own and put more $$ in your pocket. I also plan on getting something "dream" on board to commemorate our trip.
We used Shirley for my parent's 50th anniversary gift basket this past July. It was exactly what I asked for. And my parents had enough snacks to take some home on the plane with them. And believe it or not, the best part was the gatorade that I requested for my dad. He has a thing about staying hydrated and I wanted him to have something to drink. He loved sitting on his verandah sipping his gatorade. And mom enjoyed her wine!! (and she shared with me) And because I didn't want a basket for traveling purposes, the little blue bag they used came in very handy. My mom used it like a purse and carried her book, reading glasses and lanyard.
And I liked it waiting for them in their stateroom! Yes, I could have run around and picked up all the stuff and put it in their stateroom but this was so much easier and nicer!!
So thank you to Brooke and Shirley!
You got it Shirley! Thanks for including us in your journal!![]()
BTW - decided also to put the girls pictures in a frame and its part of the gift baskets we have on the shelves - I love the expressions of the girls in the second picture - thanks again and please give the girls xoxox from me ok?
WE ARE HONORED!!! THANK YOU FOR BEING THE REASON BEHIND THE SMILES!![]()
First let me tell you my reasoning as to what that picture represents to me and why it should be displayed - Here are 2 little girls being allowed to just enjoy life - the look in their eyes, their smiles all says the "world is a wonderful place" - I really truely believe that the gift baskets have nothing whatsoever to do with it - I was in foster care many years ago and I would have given anything for those children to have had "lights" in their eyes - they show that innocence still exists for children, it shows the parents have it right if only for the moment and that is what I got from this particular picture and I truely believe it is a "Disney" moment and if I had it my way, every child in this world, would experience that moment. I know you must be a very proud parent to know you got it right and again only if it is for the moment for I know they can cause a parent to want to pull their hair out.
Thanks for sharing - it is my honor and the picture does bring me smiles.
Hugsssssssssss
I'm sold! I'm going to call tomorrow and order a basket for my DH and DS. Can anyone give me some idea of what they put in for adults and kids. BTW, I am the worst gift giver and lack any creativity so your input is much appreciated!!
I'm definitely going to order from Shirley for our Nov cruise.
I just want to say, as a fellow small business owner, that you're paying for someone else to do the 'work' for you, and you're paying for the presentation, surprise and convenience. If Shirley (or any business) only charged exactly what these items cost her, how in the world could she provide the service? Of course we all could do anything on our own cheaper than hiring someone - mowing our lawns, cleaning our homes, eating out in a restaurant, etc. You cannot compare the price of what it would cost you and what you're being charged by Shirley. The prices seem reasonable for what you're getting, which are the items, PLUS the convenience, PLUS the surprise, PLUS the presentation etc. It's like staying in a motel 6 instead of an on-site value resort, or a value vs a mod, or a mod vs a deluxe.
Every time my dh and I used to go out to a restaurant, his mother would comment that she could have made the same food better and cheaper. She just didn't get the 'going out to dinner' experience. It's just not her thing.
I can't wait to place my order and to see my kids (and my dh's) faces when we open the stateroom door. That's what I'm paying for, not particularly the sand bucket itself. If I really wanted to save money, I could bring an old one from home.
Thanks for providing this service Shirley!

You are so welcomed and thanks for your input - you are so right in so many areas and the shopping does take time to find the right item at the right place and NO it isn't any dollar stores items
It is my sincere pleasure always to be here to help and you also are given my cell phone number listed all over the place to be used as a safe-zone number in case of any emergencies -
Thanks again
Always
Shirley
