Gideon's Bakehouse--Storing Cookies

We will be at DS next week, and I'm wanting to try Gideon's for the first time. I've got it narrowed down to three cookies. My plan is to try a portion of all three and then save the remainder for later. The issue is we will be spending the whole day out and about, and it is supposed to be nearly 90 degrees! I don't think there will be a good way to store them for later. Anyone have any suggestions?

I was at WDW during late summer. I anticipated getting a couple of Gideons cookies (strictly for research purposes you understand, I bake a lot ) so I bought a couple of the smaller plastic food storage containers from the dollar store so I could store the cookies. I had small pieces of the cookies during our trip and they were fine. I even brought them home and finished them. They were still fine. I'm actually thinking of getting a couple the day before we leave and doing the same thing. But do yourself a HUGE favor and get a cake slice. Their cake is actually much better than the cookies. How abut bringing a zip lock or plastic container and storing it in a soft side cooler with a couple of ice packs?

I didn't refrigerate the cookies. I had them 4 days before I went home , when I got home I stored them in the frig. They were still good. Tasted great. The plastic container would work better I think because it "protects" the cookie. Especially if you take home.

I bake, too! I never thought of this as a research trip, but it makes sense! I'm kind of funny in that I LOVE chocolate chip cookies, but I don't like chocolate cake. I also don't like a lot of icing; I can eat cake with no icing at all actually. My favorite cake is a white cake with buttercream (but not too much)--think wedding cake. So I'm not sure about the cake slices. But I'll check them out and see if they appeal to me. Question about the cookies--did you store them in the containers and then carry them around in the summer heat?

I thought about taking them back to the car and putting them in our small Yeti, but I was worried about what the cold ice pack would do to them.

I was staying at Saratoga that trip so I went over early got on the line( I had a car) . I walked around for an hour or two at the Springs afterwards and shopped and then went back to the Villa so I wasn't out all day with them.

Plastic containers are the way to go. I also agree with TwingleMum, their cake is amazing! But it’s definitely for frosting lovers. They freeze well, and as long as you’re not out in the heat all day they should be fine. I’ve left them in my car for a while (since the parking garage is shaded) and they were ok!

Just bought some cookies and cake slice a few hours ago. Carried it around in full sun and 80*f temps prior to bringing them back to hotel room. Tried them upon arrival a hotel and they’re all fine. Cake is delish. The cookies look great. Chocolate didn’t melt. The cookie dough is super soft and chocolate melts on the hands, but otherwise fine.

Just googled and says for cookies, store air tight at room temp. I just put them in some ziploc bags and am storing in the kitchen.

Did you carry them around in ziploc bags or plastic containers? Obviously ziploc bags are easier to pack, but I'm just wondering if the cookies will get messed up that way. I'll have a small backpack with me so I'm afraid the plastic containers might be too bulky.

So from the store, I just carried them in the packaging and paper bag that Gideon’s gave me. If I were to do it with a backpack, the cookies would be fine in a ziplock bag. The cookies come with a paper wrapper in a simple paper bag (with opening and no handles). If you get 3 or more, they’ll wrap them in paper wrapper and put them in a box. If you order less than 3, you can still ask for a box. But seriously, they are sturdy. I just would put them in ziploc bc the paper bag and boxes they come in aren’t air tight and you don’t want to jostle them (crumbs will come out) in a backpack. Not to mention, they are oily thanks to all the fat!

The cake slices are tougher to carry. They come wrapped in paper in a box. I’d probably keep them in the box or if you transport to bag, make sure it can lie flat. That’s why carrying it in the paper bag they give you is kind of easiest - it will lie flat.

Thanks for all the replies. I would rather have the cookies later in the day (thus why the questions about storing them), but I want to avoid the wait. I'll be there the Friday before President's Day, so I think it will be busy. I'm hoping to get in line about 15 minutes before opening. I hope that is enough time to allow. I'm hoping to be able to get the coffee cake cookie since I know they are limited.

Update—I got my cookies including the coffee cake cookie. Nothing I had planned happened like I wanted though. I didn’t get in line until right when they opened or maybe a little later. I waited nearly an hour to get in. And I forgot my ziploc bags! So after we taste-tested them, I took them to the car which was in the Lime parking garage and put them in the back floorboard. It hit upper 80s yesterday, but when we came back about 5 1/2 hours later, they were perfectly fine. The chocolate chips hadn’t melted, and in fact, all felt a bit cool. They were delicious, by the way.

Yay! And I'm so sorry nothing happened exactly as you had planned, but glad their products are sturdy enough to withstand those high temps. Enjoy!
