An aerial view shows what appears to be some configuration of machines or something mechanical near the Yacht and Beach club. Not sure of the direction (why doesn't Google Maps have a compass on the web version I'm in?) but it's opposite the road you'd use to drive into either the Yacht Club or the Beach Club.

EDIT - zooming out shows that the default orientation is North at the top, so the "Mickey" is essentially a bit NW of the Y/B Club)

It's HUGE - it looks like it would barely fit inside the lake that the Yacht/Beach Club and Boardwalk surrounds. You'd need a satellite view to see it, though it does show on the map of the area on the WDW site.

Anyone know what it is?

Is that the Solar Farm? I don't have access to the satellite pictures but I know it is somewhere around there.

Probably that's it - I can't zoom in enough to see what it's made of, but it sure looks like they could be solar panels.

Thanks. You can actually see it zoomed WAY out; has to be the largest hidden Mickey ever.

Thanks for the link - that's it for sure.

EDIT - went live about 2 years ago (april 2016); "Only" enough power to run about 900 homes so certainly a relatively small factor in overall power consumption at WDW.

Yes - the news clip that was part of your link mentioned the forest. Thanks again, mar7967!

As part of Earth Day activities this year Disney World announced a much bigger Solar project:

Walt Disney World Resort recently embarked on a new initiative in collaboration with the Reedy Creek Improvement District and solar project developer Origis Energy USA to bring a new 270-acre, 50-megawatt solar facility online by the end of the year, generating enough renewable clean energy to power two of its four theme parks in Central Florida!

This solar facility will include half a million solar panels and will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 57,000 tons per year. That’s the annual equivalent of removing 9,300 automobiles from the roads. More broadly, this initiative will join the numerous efforts The Walt Disney Company has launched to deliver its 2020 goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to 2012.

Great info Dave! Thank you. Now we're talking! The hidden Mickey one is "only" 5 mega watt. I guess a sort of proto type.

That will be a lot a mining going on to create the solar panels needed. Lots of rare metals needed.
