Ghost Whisperer Premiere

I have to admit that I think that I might not HATE this. I mean, I have a feeling we are going to MAINLY see Jim. He will be as sexy and sweet as ever but it will just be different. I mean JIM is who I want to see so I think eventually we are going to forget he is in a different body and it will be more like an amnesia story. I know..I know...annoying BUT I just love David! You know he will be as adorable as ever!

Well, I'm not going to be mainly seeing Jim cause I won't be watchin'! :rotfl:

When you read the article Debbie Jean linked to, I don't think I've ever seen so many positive adjectives used in any self promotion before. There were a couple of times "the crew was moved to tears." Also did you see how many times the mentioned how wonderful a situation was, or how beautiful someone was... I think they know they've jumped the shark and are now trying to resell the show. Like maybe if we read how wonderful & incredible things are, we'd start to believe it. :sad2:
It seems like they are trying real hard to sell the koolaid:drinking1 ::yes::

OMG! Did they just change the opening credits???? They usually show Melinda talking about how she's had her gift since childhood, (show her as a kid) show her getting married, her life now, etc.

Did they skip that tonight? I saw them showing graphics and the names of the actors. That was it.

I must admit, I actually enjoyed it. I still wish they didn't go this route but I'm willing to give it a shot.

no, I think it's been like that for a while now.

Haven't seen the show yet, the kids have confiscated the TV. tonight is do or die night for me, so hopefully they redeem themselves.

I don't know. I thought most of the writing was lame. The only good thing was Camryn Manheim's acting. :thumbsup2 Glad they showed David Conrad instead of that other actor.

But, the jury's still out for me. :( It's like we already know that they don't have their first date will Feb., because of the that website with the advance description of episodes. So I could just tune out & back in, in Feb & see the "first date." Lame.

I have to admit I didn't hate it. Like you guys said, I am just glad they showed David Conrad MOST of the time, including when others looked at him. I just think that David Conrad is adorable. There is just something about him that is so likable and I loved how at the end the ghost kind of summed it up telling her after all she has done that she deserved a miracle and that he thought it was OK. I liked it.

I'm not too sure about what's going on with the show. I don't know if I want to turn it off or keep watching it. So far I'm going to stick with the show and see what happens next. Now one show that I am going to stop watching is Supernatural....I really don't care for where they're going with that show.

As long as they use "Jim" aka David Conrad I'll watch. I would like "Sam" to remember being Jim after while though- at least remember some of Jim and Melinda together. I could get into this..... I'm such a romance sucker...;)

I agree and I think they will have eventually just go right back to being the old Jim we know and love!

Conveniently they got rid of his parents and his sister and said there was no significant other. Very convenient, huh!

Good grief, if they were going to have Jim come back, why did they even bother to kill him? ughh! I hope we get back to some jerky ghosts next show:lmao:

this thread on the CBS website is kind of interesting.
The OP noticed a lot of things that had been brought up here (like Mel's mom and the professor not at the funeral, the strange funeral, etc). She looked at them as 'hints' that Jim is in a sort of out of body experience. She thought that when Jim looked in all the rooms and then entered the scene before his funeral, that it was a look into a possible future that may not be.
They don't have numbered posts on that board, but the last post on page one has an interesting possibility - that as Jim gets back enough of his memories, he can go back and open the door to his hospital room and go back into his own body. Still kind of messy, but better than life with a corpse.
They also make some interesting points - like there are reports that the actor playing Sam is only appearing in 6 episodes and that "Jim" aka David Conrad is reportedly signed for next season. None of that makes sense if "Sam" is going to be the 'new' DH and Jim is gone for good once the viewers have made the 'transition' to Sam.
Maybe?
And, if this is not the plan, there is still time for the show to be re-written this way and they could pretend it was always supposed to turn out like this.

Sorry, I don't agree.

That OP is mixing Hollywood show business (and it is called show business) with the storyline.

Mel's mom is Academy Award nominee, Anne Archer. She doesn't do bit parts or extra work. In order to have her on the show, they would have had to give her several lines & airtime, and pay her the big bucks she probably gets being Mel's mom.

The professor, Jay Mohr, is the star of his own show. He's no longer under contract for Ghost Whisperer. He doesn't ever have to appear on this series ever again. Also, he wouldn't be an extra either, they'd have to give him lines & pay him.

Both scenes would take up airtime, on an already weakly written episode.

Both, Archer & Mohr, are working on other projects or series (according to the IMDb.) Maybe they just couldn't be there for filming. :confused3

We really don't know if Sam is appearing in ONLY 6 more episodes. He's only listed that way in the IMDb.com.

A few weeks ago, for the show True Blood, many of us noticed actor, Stephen Moyer, was only listed for 9 episodes, whereas everyone else was listed for 12. Moyer is the second lead on the show, (according to opening credits,) but his storyline was that he disappears for a while, so we weren't sure if he was coming back. :confused3

It could have been that who ever submits the info for him to the IMDb forgot, goofed, was late or the show just didn't want to give away what was going to happen.

In a few of the articles the producers wrote, they keep saying how they want to show us the magic of Melinda & Jim falling in love "from the beginning." I think they could have just conked him on the head & he got amnesia, but this is a series about ghosts, so I think they felt the need to kill him off instead.

At least, as someone else wrote, they got rid of those other story lines that weren't working, about Mel's father and the evil ghosts coming after Melinda. It seems to me, this is the theme this season: having Mel & Jim fall in love again.

I realize those things and understand that sometimes things are cut out/not included because it would be too expensive/difficult to film them. Or that they may take too much time.
They would not have had to appear, just was strange they were not mentioned at all.

I personally do agree that most of the stuff mentioned is just bad writing, but it's nice to hope it may be something other than that.

I didn't say I agreed with it all, just that it was interesting.
And, depending on what happens with viewership, it would give an 'out' to bring things back to the way they were if the ratings go down and/or viewers are really against the new line.
A new episode could be filmed (with Jim having additional 'insight' into the world of the dead being the 'payoff' to the storyline.)

Sue, I hope you don't think I was bashing you. :goodvibes If anything, since I was the one who came up with the coma idea that was totally wrong, :( I guess I may be coming down a little hard on other ideas now that may give us false hope again. :(

I was thinking before the show on Friday, that all of us on our thread were probably still in mourning while the rest of the viewers were one week further along in the "grief process" because for them, Jim had died the week before, whereas were still hoping Jim was in a coma.

And I agree, they should have at least mentioned in a quick line why Mel's mom & Payne weren't there, but sent their condolences, or flowers sitting on the mantle or something. Again, bad writing.

Sue, I hope you don't think I was bashing you. :goodvibes
I hope you don't think I was bashing back.:goodvibes

I did watch on Friday and decided that I'm not watching any more. Everything was all tied up in a 'heartwarming way' that was just so sickly sweet it made me not want to watch.
From the family that Sam was estranged from pretty much who got 'converted' by Mel.
From Delia who was first opposed, then enthusiastically told her to go ahead to take her second chance.
To the ghost who was mad at what Mel and Jim had done and then at the end said "With all you do, if anyone deserves a miracle, it's you."

I felt it was WAY too manipulative - not just putting the Koolaide out there to drink, but bashing me on the head, and trying to pour it down my throat while I was stunned.
I'm not planning to drink any more Koolaide and won't be watching. No matter how they sugarcoat it, Mel is dating a corpse that her DH's soul just jumped into. And he didn't jump right at the time of death; I don't know what the time progression was, but when his ghost stepped into the kitchen after his death, Mel said it had been 2 days. She had not planned the funeral yet, so by the time the episode ended, it had been much more than that.
I know a lot of families watch this - what does it say to kids?
If someone dies, if you loved them enough and they loved you enough, they will find a way to come back from the dead? And, that if your one true love dies, you should continue to look for that one forever?

Too icky for me, even if it's dripping with heartwarming emotion and even if the angry ghost gave the "Good Ghostkeeping" sign of approval.
I've already contacted CBS with the 'why' and I will be contacting them and the production company with why again.

If it turns out different and he was in a coma or near death experience, someone please PM me so I know to watch the reruns. Until then, Ghostbusters is cancelled to me.

Nicely said Sue :thumbsup2

My family all thought along the same lines, it was just to over the top sweet while its really :scared:

We tuned out as well, which is sad because it was one of our favorites. :sad1:
