I just heard about this today so I'm sorry if it's been posted or discussed already.

It's apparently a new fad among teens called Ghost Riding.

Here is some info on it:
— Young people have always been drawn to risky behavior, and the latest dangerous thrill is called "ghost riding the whip."

Ghost riding involves leaving the wheel of a moving car and walking, running, or dancing beside it.

It's a craze that's catching on, especially on the Internet, with young people making and posting hundreds of ghost-riding videos online.

Teens ghost ride on suburban roads, in parking lots, and on the freeway.

Some of the stunts are highly choreographed, with kids jumping in and out of moving cars.

One tape of a ghost-riding stunt shows a teenager wrapping up his stunt just as a school bus approaches.

Another shows a ghost rider losing control completely, his truck crashing into a fire hydrant and a utility pole.

"First thing a parent should say to their kid is, 'Don't participate in that activity,'" said Mark Helms, the assistant chief of the Stockton, Calif., police department. "It's extremely dangerous."

Here's a link that tells more about it.

And here's a clip of one teen doing it and having it go not as planned:

Maybe this is old news here, but I'd never heard of it and I just have to wonder why are they doing this??

With all that is offered to teens these days in the way of entertainment and things to do, are they really so bored that they have to do stunts like this??

Maybe they are spoiled and have to much to do and are always on the look out for ways to "push the envelope" so to speak. :confused3

I don't know. Just makes me cringe at the thought of my kids growing up and becoming teens. How will we all survive it???

Wow! I've never heard of it either and I have teens! I'd like to think they have more brains than to participate in something so stupid but....I guess I will have another "chat" with them! They just love my chats!!

Teens and risky behavior is nothing new. Just how they do it.

The first time I heard about this was on one of my son's PS2 games, "Pimp my Ride."
Of course the game shows nothing how it is in real life.

Right now my kids are 12, 10, 6 and 6. I am not sure I want to see what risky thing teens have dreamed up to amuse themselves in a few years!!:scared1:

:scared1:

I have never heard of this. Of course my 11 year old son has already been told he is not getting a license until he is 18 unless he can prove before then that he is mature enough to handle the responsibility of driving.

Yeah, but it seems like teens are getting more stupid as the years go on.

Not really.

There were a few things we did as teens. Well, not necessarily me personally, but I guess I did a few that I won't admit to. :rolleyes1

Driving around at night with the headlights off.

"Surfing" on top of the roof.

Being pulled while on skates/skateboard/bike.

Driving fast over the crest of a hill so you get "air."

That's all I can think of right now, but I know there's more.

Don't forget steering with your feet and or knees.

I work with a man who does that now and talks on two cell phones at the same time.:scared1: When I happen to be one of the people he is talking too I hang up and tell him to call me when he is has stopped driving.

... and these are the same kids who complain about insurance for male teens being too high?

I think the driving test should incorporate an IQ test.

The first time I've heard of this, I was watching The Girls Next Door when Kendra asked the other girls did they wanna come out and "ghost ride the whip"....I'm only 23 but that still looks so dumb  .

We used to play Chinese Fire Drill with unlicensed drivers on the main road - yeah that was dumb, and there were times I felt very nervous when doing it. But when you're with a group and one member gets a fun but harebrained idea, it's hard to go against the grain. You know it's potentially dangerous, but it's being talked up so much that it seems like a blast, and you'd feel like such a downer if you tried to object to the idea. Peer pressure. :sad2:

:rotfl: The world would be a much safer place!

I wish they would increase the driving age. I just don't think that most kids are repsonsible enough to drive alone at 16. :confused3 Out of all my friends from back when I was a teen, I am the ONLY one who has never even had an accident. Just goes to show that not everyone should be driving just because they reached the legal age.

:rolleyes1 I have no idea what you are talking about:rolleyes1

Okay, this makes me think my teen years were very boring compared to yours!! :lmao:

:sad2: I agree. It is hard for teens but I just hope I don't spend all this time raising them only to have them go and get themselves killed over something really stupid.

I would never have thought to do stuff like this but then again, I didn't get my license till I was 18 and didn't drive until I was almost 21. I didn't have money for a car and didn't want to drive my mom's old clunker :rotfl: so I figured why bother. lol :teeth:

Was that done without a driver though? I never did it so I honestly don't know. :confused3
