Ghost Adventures

something to think about here..

The Ghost Hunters carry their own personal recording devices (both audio and video) which are common off the shelf devices. These devices routinely pick up "activity". The high end, ultra sensitive gear the camera and sound crew who follow and film them, never pick up these occurrences.

This happens frequently when you are on an investigation. It's a very long process when it comes to sorting through things that may be "evidence" or just an "anomaly."

They don't get to show this process on TV, but those of us who do this (and aren't contracted to a network), do take notice to those type of discrepancies and take it into consideration when reviewing case notes. It's not only restricted to just EVP's either. You will get various visual evidence that shows on one camera but not the other.

For TV, though, I can see why they run with that kind of stuff. I've done my own investigations, and accompanied larger organizations on others, and I still love watching the shows for the "entertainment" value.

I will say, though, that I enjoy Ryan and the Paranormal State guys. They've done a nice job creating a show that is more about helping the people affected by their situations, rather than finding evidence. Sometimes an investigation isn't about the activity, but about easing the minds of those being affected, because to them the situation is very real.

What an interesting thread! I've watched a few Ghost Adventures episodes, and could not be considered a regular viewer by any means. I think you all sum it up well to say they are good entertainment, but that's about it. If I close my eyes when GA plays their EVPs, I don't hear anything. Of course, when I'm reading the words while they play it, of course I hear it ;)

I seem to remember that Zac is from Reno, which always makes me wonder what he did before GA fame? I'd bet money he was some sort of performer, but I could be wrong.

I regularly watch Ghost Hunters, and yeah, they certainly don't find as much evidence as GA, but when they do I tend to believe it. However...I will say that lately I haven't been hearing many of the EVPs they catch. For example, on Ghost Hunters Academy, when Steve and Tango would find evidence the "cadets" missed, I couldn't hear anything. I guess I'd get kicked out of GHA! :rotfl:

I LOVE Ghost Adventures! I've been watching since the first episode. Whether it's "real" or not, I love it. Aaron is hilarious :rotfl: I was so excited for the live show last year. This season's Bobby Mackey episode freaked me out! I was so excited for the Stanley Hotel episode because I love the Shining but I wish they had done more inside the actual hotel.

Love Ghost Adventures for many of the reasons all ready mentioned. I like the fact that it's just the three of them and no extra camera crew. I love it when Zak and Nick have Aaron alone somewhere. Poor Aaron. Totally cracked me up when he had the wig on in the Stanley Hotel episode.

I loved that :rotfl2:

They were the featured guests at Scarefest in Lexington last year and I have to say that they are absolutely wonderful and hysterical. They stood for pictures and autographs for hours and then walked about the huge crowd, talking with people and joking with them. I saw Zack record a video on a ladies' video camera for her son who was too sick to be there. What a nice guy - seriously.

And I do think that they are 100% honest people. They sure are over-the-top and they are VERY enthusiastic but they believe in what they are doing!!

Awww! That's so sweet! :lovestruc I would love to meet them!

Yes, this is why I like Ryan as well.

I just finished reading Michelle Belanger's book Haunting experiences and really liked it. She seems level headed.

I also like Chip Coffey.

And, I LOVE that Ryan uses Lorraine Warren! One of the first paranormal books I read as a kid was one by the Warrens about demonology. I know their reputation is mixed, but I like them.

I just saw GA for the first time last week and said I would never watch it again because of the way they run and scream (esp Aaron). I figure if you're that scared, ghost hunting is not the business for you--besides they just looked plain silly and not at all professional.

Then, I saw that they were doing a show from Waverly Hills Sanitorium at midnight Saturday. I had to watch that. My daughter had gone on a tour there earlier Saturday night and told me about some things they saw/heard, so I wanted to see what the GA found.

The "whistle" they recorded-I thought this was odd that no one heard it, until it was on the recorder, because my daughter swore they heard the whistling. After they heard it, their guide told them about it being a rather recent phenomenon. Prior to hearing it, they had no idea that it existed.

So, I guess that one little difference has me questioning GA.
