We are renewing our wedding vows at the Swan next year and from pictures, the resort is beautiful. DH wants to stay at GF after having dinner at 1900 Park Fare this year. Any opinions on which resort would be better? They are both really nice from what I can see.

While we have never stayed at GF...we love the Swan/Dolphin.

The ammenities, the convenience to all the great restaurants and activities and of course, the heavenly beds and wonderful bedding..(you won't find those beds at the GF).

That's a tough call...GF is not my favorite, but it is considered Disney's 'flagship' resort. Personally, I think it's a little over-rated, but it is nice. It is somewhere that you might want to stay there at least once, and many people really do love it. It does have maybe more of a wedding magical atmosphere than the Swan, but don't get me wrong. I love the Swan...it just might be that GF is a little more 'special occasion' kind of a place than the Swan. Normally for your average vacationer, I would highly recommend saving the $ and booking the Swan.

I agree that you get a lot more for your money at the Swan. We have stayed at S/D twice and love the beds, location and deluxe atmosphere. I've never stayed at the GF, but it does look beautiful and being close to MK is a plus. Can you split your stay??

If you travel to Disney every year or so and can afford it, you might want to do GF this year and save Swan a future trip. I've also heard that the GF has a nice Wedding Pavilion. I didn't really see anything like that at the Swan, but I imagine the ceremony will be more expensive at the GF as well.

Thanks for the advice. I had read a few times here about the beds at the Swan. We get a night at the Swan in the "wedding package", but I'm just trying to figure out if we should switch to GF after that due to the great location. This will be our last WDW trip for a few years and since it is a second honeymoom (with DD12) I want to make sure we all love it.

The Grand Floridian is really unique and spectacular....if you are really looking for something special and don't mind the added cost (GF is of course much more expensive than the Swan) then I would recommend the GF. I've stayed there several times and it is my favorite deluxe resort at WDW (we've tried six of the deluxe hotels). I have stayed at the Swan and would highly recommend it, but it is a fun, over the top (meaning brightly decorated) elegant hotel that is similar to many deluxe hotels in Florida. The Grand Floridian is truly unique--it is a turn of the century luxury hotel that is a step up from the Swan and Dolphin and has a very special, magical feeling about it. I think the GF would be a more popular location for weddings and there are plenty of romantic views around GF, including that of Cinderella's castle at night above the lagoon.

You might want to think about if you want multiple buildings (GF has a main lobby w/ restaurants, shops and then separate buildings for most of the rooms) or a hotel w/ all the rooms in one building (Swan). The beds at the Swan and Gf are similar--the Swan has the Westin heavenly beds which are very comfortable but the GF has extremely comfortable beds as well--about the same level. The rooms at the GF are much larger and decorated with Alice in Wonderland wallpaper, with wicker bathroom furniture and Alice in Wonderland bath supplies. The rest of the rooms look elegant and Victorian. The Swan is much more modern and the rooms are more typical, though they are deluxe. Both resorts offer comfortable robes and all the other amenities associated w/ deluxe hotels, like great pool areas (well, GFs is better b/c there are two pools, one which has a waterfall and faces the seven seas lagoon, and has a white sand beach w/ a swing), beach, water activities (Swan has paddle boats while GF has extensive water rentals available--boats, mouses, cruises, etc.), lots of restaurants, good access to theme parks (GF is near MK, Swan near MGM and Epcot), good transportation options around WDW....I would consider the GF more romantic, as there is a band playing in the lobby (which is more elaborate at GF than the Swan, though the Dolphin's lobby is pretty elaborate), and the Victorian theming is more romantic than the Swan's whimsical contemporary theme. There are lots of honeymoon items in GFs shops which makes me guess there are plenty of honeymoons and weddings there.
Both are great hotels, but if cost isn't a factor, GF is by far the more exceptional resort.
Have a great trip :).

The beds at the Swan & Dolphin are awesome!! They are so so comfortable. You won't want to get out of bed!! From what I've read on these boards, all Disney resorts use the exact same mattresses. The Grand Floridian uses the same mattresses as the value resorts. After sleeping one night in a heavenly bed at the Swan, you'll feel the difference.

All the beds at the Disney resorts do not feel the same at all. The beds at the Grand Floridian are much more comfortable than at the WL, for example. The brand may be the same (I've never looked into it) but the quality/ type isn't--the GF beds are the only deluxe beds at WDW (that I've stayed in--which includes Yacht Club, AKL, WL and Boardwalk) that feel as comfortable as a heavenly bed at the Swan or the sweet sleeper at the Dolphin. I once transferred from GF to stay a couple nights at the Port Orleans Riverside and mostly missed the incredible GF bed! AKLs are very comfortable, too--but not as great as GFs.
