We just got back from our FABULOUS WDW wedding & honeymoon, and I wanted to post a quick review of the GF Concierge. I've read quite a few negative comments, and wanted to give our perspective, which was totally different.
When we booked our wedding package, we reserved a lagoon view room at the GF. We faxed a request over for a Magic Kingdom view room, and mentioned that since we were holding a Disney wedding, we would appreciate any available upgrades.
When we checked in, the front desk called the concierge down to come get us. We were so shocked! We'd been upgraded to a beautiful concierge level turret room, with a king bed.
Our entire stay could not have been more perfect. We didn't use the concierge lounge as a meal provider, except for a light breakfast each morning, but it was a nice addition to our restaurant fare. Every day, there was something different. One evening, during the wine and cheese course, there were shrimp spring rolls with a peanut sauce, that we really enjoyed. The variety in the snacks was nice. They kept the food fully stocked, and we weren't scheduling our park time around the service, so we never showed up right on time for anything. We often saw servers refreshing the food and beverages in the lounge.
The tables by the window were perfect! They have these great tables for two, with a beautiful view, and we really enjoyed just sitting there, soaking up the atmosphere of the Grand Floridian and listening to the orchestra. Some of the happiest moments of our trip were spent there, just enjoying each other's company and the delight of getting to stay in the main building.
We had flowers put in our towels and washcloths every night by our maid, which was a wonderful touch.
The night before our wedding, the concierge staff left a bottle of champagne and a pink rose in the room for us, along with a congratulatory card.
We enjoyed the little cards mousekeeping left in the room, and the chocolates, and the robes and slippers. Really, we loved everything about the room! We could see the wedding pavilion from our window, which was really special to us, and could also see Spaceship Earth from the room.
We didn't expect the upgrade, or any of the extras, so we were always thrilled with anything extra that we got, like the flowers in the towels, instead of expecting things like towel animals (I prefer the flowers). I think a lot of the charm of Disney is that everyone will have a different experience, so instead of thinking about what the concierge could have done for us, we enjoyed everything extra as part of the pixie dust Disney sprinkled on our entire trip.
Really, our favorite memories are of the simple things like listening to the orchestra play. It was really nice to have the lounge to sit in quietly, without the noise of the lobby below, enjoying the great view, nice food, elegant & opulent yet understated atmosphere. We found these amenities alone to be well worth the extra price for a concierge room, and have resolved to always stay concierge level at the Grand Floridian on our future trips.
Cheers!
