Hello Everyone!
This is my first post on the DISboards, even though I've been reading the boards for several months now. The advice that I have been reading has been great. So, now I'm registered and in need of some help!

We've stayed at the GF many times in the past (over 15 times), and we've always wanted to stay in the main building, but have usually planned our trip too late to get a reservation there. (A CM once told me that the RPC rooms are among the first to book up at WDW.) So, I've been in the lodge buildings (and have had wonderful times there)! Now, I've got my act together well enough in advance to get a room in the RPC for next May.

And here are the questions.
1. I understand that there are two rooms done in the "historic" pattern, which I assume is the original decor of the rooms when the GF first opened. Does anyone know where those rooms are and if they are non-smoking? (For medical reasons, we need a NS room.)
2. Are the concierge deluxe rooms non-smoking or smoking optional? And if they are smoking optional, are they cleaned well enough that the smell of smoke is undetectable?
3. Does anyone know if the RPC rooms that overlook the new pool are smoking or non-smoking and are those rooms noisy because of how close they are to the main lobby?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Hi! Welcome to the DIS. :wave2:

I can help you with a couple of your questions.

I stayed in one of the Historic rooms. I don't remember the room number, though!!! I can tell you it was a nonsmoking room with two queen beds and a daybed. It overlooked the marina and had a FABULOUS castle view. I don't remember if it was on the 4th or the 3rd floor. I think it was 3rd and it had a low room number like 4304 or 4303. or 4403 or 4404???

I also stayed in a room overlooking the new pool and lobby - and it was nonsmoking with just two queen beds. YES it was noisy in the middle of the night. It woke me up when they were polishing and vacuuming the lobby floors. I don't think it was particularly noisy during the day, but in the middle of the night - it was awful for a light sleeper.

I have never stayed in the concierge deluxe room as we have a family of 5 and they will only sleep 4 in that room.

This will at least bump you up so somebody can answer more of your questions.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney :earsgirl:

I really can't say about the historic decor of the rooms but I can tell you that room 4422 overlooks the zero entry pool and is really big and beautifull and not noisy at all. As I recall the room is smoking optional but did not smell at all like smoke. As someone said it only sleeps four because this is a deluxe room.

I can't answer your questions but just wanted to ask when in May are you going to be at RPC?

We will be there May 6th - 13!

Did you realize that you can now make your advance dining reservations? I made ours a week ago and got all the times and tours and childcare as requested.

I am looking forward to the answers to your questions because I am now thinking about room requests too.

Nice to meet you!

Our plan is to be at the RPC for 8 nights at the end of May - arriving on the 25th. We're almost at the 180 days for the dining reservations. We like all the restaurants at the GF, so we'll try them. Hopefully the CMs at the RPC can get the reservations we need when they contact us before our stay.

When I made the reservation, the CM asked if I wanted a room with two queen beds and a daybed or just the two queen beds. Looks like some RPC rooms only have the two queen beds, so we made sure we noted that in addition to non-smoking, we'd like the daybed in the room. Those are the only room requests we've made so far.

DisneyDoogie, welcome to the Dis website.

Here is my experience at the Grand Floridian. I hope it helps…

I stayed in a deluxe concierge room in the main building when I was in a wheelchair two years ago. It was a handicap-accessible room that had a roll-in shower, a true godsend to someone like me because I was not allowed to walk due to surgery. My ~unofficial~ guess is that the room was smoking-optional because it was a true handicap-accessible room and there aren’t too many of those in the main building. Now, with that being said, the room did not smell of smoke at all. Thank goodness because no one in my family smokes.

I should note that I have stayed in other smoking-optional rooms at the Grand Floridian (our suites fell into that category), and none of them smelled of smoke. My experience is that the Grand Floridian does a nice job in keeping their rooms smelling good (that is, not smelling at all).

Here are photos of the deluxe room that I spoke of just so you can see what it looked like (the deluxe rooms vary somewhat):

Main Building Deluxe Bathroom (handicap-accessible w/roll-in shower)

Have a lovely vacation.

Thank you all very much for the info and great advice. And thanks Janet2k for the pictures of the deluxe concierge room!
