GF/Poly Walkway is Closed

Just got back October 2022, and the walkway is very much closed for the Poly2 DVC project. Path is in front of the wedding building, then the way across the major road, no crosswalk, no shade. Construction barriers everywhere. It's brutal. This isn't the pleasant walk it used to be.

Then the nearest Poly entrance goes through the pool, ugh. I was a guest, but you'd have to go even further if you weren't, probably.

Shame! That walk used to be so nice! Was there right before Ian hit and that walkway was open. No so scenic construction view for a bit but most of it was very enjoyable. Could it be close off just because of Ian damage? Can’t imagine having to walk out on the main roadway!

Unfortunately, that is not the case. They are putting up a DVC tower over at Poly and have started construction. They had to reroute the path due to the construction work. You can click HERE to see some pictures and additional information. Hope that helps.

The title of this thread may be a bit misleading. There is indeed a walkway from the Poly to the Grand. It's just not the old walkway along the shoreline.

Was just coming on here wondering. I thought there was a new temporary walkway!

Just to further elaborate - the new walkway is not anything to write home about. It takes you across Floridian Way just past Shades of Green, then you walk alongside the golf course (being reimagined) before crossing back over Floridian Way near the Wedding Chapel.

Floridian Way is a fairly busy road and although there are marked crosswalks, I'd be very cautious crossing there.

I agree misleading title.......the walkway has been partially rerouted due to the Poly construction. Honestly, if you are going to walk for miles at the Disney parks, who wants to add to that instead taking the available monorail/boat options?

:::: waving hand enthusiastically:::: Me, me, ME!

We actually made a point to walk (me)/roll (DH) from the MK to the TTC last fall for wish-fulfillment of several years' standing. Used to commiserate on a now-defunct Disney forum how it stank that you could easily walk CR to MK but not GF to MK. Woudn't it be cool if you could walk from MK clear to the TTC was the shared feeling.

We used the GF-MK segment several times, in fact. It was that enjoyable.

Not that I won't ride boat or monorail. Love both. The walkway is kinda like eating IN THE CASTLE or riding the monorail right INTO the CR Tower. Still a thrill no matter how many times...

Oh how I wish I had read this before our trip this past weekend. We were staying at GF but spend a like spending time at Poly so the walkway was such a main draw to spending the points on GF. When we got to the "normal" path entrance by wedding pavilion it just indicated it was closed and we didn't see any information about an alternative walkway. Even if not as scenic and a longer walk that would have been ok compared to the boat/monorail options which just aren't our thing during busy times (ie: right after fireworks, etc.). No concerns for us about walking anywhere compared to transportation (got equivalent of 34 miles walked in 2 days based on steps conversion). We also miss the walking path between Fort Wilderness Campground and Wilderness Lodge. Enjoyed the walking path from GF to MK - so convenient for our resort hopping trip to see the holiday decorations.
