Let me just say I have been there during many 4th of July weeks and other busy summer months and while the pool might have quite a few people in it all seem to be having fun and many are relaxing in the zero entry area so I have never seen anyone while I was there that thought the amount of people was an issue. I also have never had a time where I could not find a place to sit any time of the day. I know more people that think the Polynesian pool is a reason to go there than the amount of people who view it as a reason to not go.
With that said I will tell you that all the original longhouses were fixed up over the last few years (excluding the newer construction of Tahiti, Rapa Nui and Tokelau) and now they are in the process of adding the new room design starting with Aotearoa. Tahiti I believe is next but this could change and since I was told that Tahiti suffered some damage from the hurricanes, it will not only be closed to get the new rooms but also to do repairs. This I am told will take a few months and since they have not even started yet I would not count on it being open in August. There are plenty of great locations anyway to choose from besides Tahiti and as much as I love Tahiti some feel it is too isolated or they want to be next to the pools or GCH.
With the schedule changing so much on what building will be worked on when I would not be placing any hopes on Tahiti, Rapa Nui, Tokelau or Hawaii this year. Things can and will change when it comes to those locations this year and if I felt there was any accurate information out there about any of the buildings I would post it.
Aloha
