I know the orchestra is gone, but I thought there was at least a pianist that played in the lobby. I'm hearing a report that there isn't a pianist currently. I'm hoping that's not true. Anyone there that can verify one way or another?

He was there in Nov./December when we were there. I made it a point to ask a CM about him, since we only saw him one day out of the 8 days we were there. The CM said he pretty much sets his own schedule. I believe it was every other weekend at the time. A Pianist is still shown on the website, but no times/schedule posted.

Looks like they moved him too 😥

I definitely didn’t like where he was, but I assume it was for his best interest. I loved when he was right in the middle of lobby... the best was sitting on a couch with a glass of wine in my hand, watching him play, while kids danced around him. Hopefully we’ll get to see it again soon.

I think the piano was over in that side area because the tree was up in the lobby. The latest lobby photos I saw on a blog last week had the piano back in the middle.

Haven’t seen any mention lately of him playing. If hours aren’t on the app or online, that’s not a great sign. :-(

He was in the middle of the lobby when I was there in January but only on the weekends. When I popped in during the week, he wasn't there.

At least, there's some live music there some of the time, I suppose. I am hoping, though, that they bring back the orchestra band one day. The GF is supposed to be their special flagship resort and it needs these details.

Sadly I doubt they’ll be back. They put the new bar where the orchestra was 😔

:sad2: :sad2: That's sad. Is there another possible location?

Every time they remove something that made the Disney environment special to replace it with another wallet-opener, I find it harder to justify, bearing in mind what Disney has always sold - and still sells - as "what make Disney magical".

I know some don't like it when people refer to which changes Walt might, or might not have liked, (but I'll do it anyway!!! ;)) and say that exchanging such a large part of the family atmosphere for a bar/alcohol would not have made him happy.

I know things can't stay the same and I do agree he wouldn't have wanted them to, but I do think he'd have wanted the heart of his unique business to be respected.

Plus, doesn't live music encourage guests to spend more?!

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for the lobby orchestra band, but I'm also still crossing them for evening "magic" hours; illuminated nightly parade at MK; a good daytime view across WS lagoon; fewer drunks at Epcot; dog-free cabin loops at FW; an upturn in the quality of food and the return of the DME (or, at least, free overnight resort parking)!

It's hard to cross your fingers that many times! :rotfl:

I agree. They’ve taken away so many things, even before Covid. I still remember being a flag family at WL and taking the Lodge Tour. And was free. They tried it at GF for a charge. I wonder if the GF Parasol parade will return? I’m waiting for them to make up more view categories at GF like they did at Poly not long ago. Upping room rates even more. Taking away free resort parking was a real slap in the face for those who drive. We never rent a car at WDW. If I want to go off site I’ll take a Lyft/Uber. It’s cheaper than paying for car rental + parking.
I hope the things we lost will return, my fingers are crossed too.

I'd forgotten about the flag family at WL and the parasol parade at GF. :thumbsup2 It would be nice to think that some of these things returned or similar new "Disney details" were created.

I always think it's a shame when people can't see beyond the spreadsheets, because some things have great value - but it's value that can't be measured in the same statistical ways.

The idea of reasonable profit has been warped and the understanding that quality products/services/treatment of staff etc. are also important seemingly forgotten in its wake. They're not mutually exclusive., though, are they?

It's a shame, really, because, in the long-run, providing quality benefits everyone, however much they have to spend.

Keep your fingers crossed! ::yes::::yes::::yes::

Maybe we need a thread celebrating what similar details are still there. I'd like Disney to realise that these small details, collectively, were big building blocks in the creating of their empire and reputation and that we value them even though they can't measure how much in $$$.
