I was thinking about doing in room dining at the GF for my family and have heard that they make up the table and such with a table cloth and do place settings etc. Has anyone done this? How early does this need to be set up? Also if you are ordering off of their menu does the service fee of 18% still apply of is it just for things they have to get specially from one of the restaurants? Just wondering! Thanks!

Yes, room service will set your table. They do a very nice job at the GF as well as at the Polynesian....probably at most the deluxes although at BCV we've ordered several times and only one gentleman actually set the table. The others just put down the tray with the cloth on top.

But I digress. Anyway you don't need to set this up ahead of time. Just call and order when you're ready to dine. You'll probably be told to allow 30-45 minutes or some such length of time but at the GF and the Polynesian, service has always been very fast...usually around 20 minutes. You can also order breakfast the night before and hang the little form on the outside of your door. You indicate what time you want breakfast served as well as your choices. A very nice way to start the day.

You do have to pay the 18% gratuity as well as the service fee when ordering from the room service menu. We've never ordered from the restaurant menu.

Someone somewhere mentioned they serve it butler style...is that correct? We would probably be ordering an appetizer, salad, entree, and then a dessert. Would it be brought seperately or all at once? We never do this sort of thing so it is definately new to me.

I have a picture of the made-up table that the CM set up for us when we ordered room service for breakfast one morning. I have a link in my signature below; click the link, then scroll down the main page a little to my "May 2001" section, then click on the "Grand Floridian" page. That's where I have pictures of our stay, including the morning we had room service. We really enjoyed eating breakfast while looking out at the lagoon :)

Hope this helps, and have a great trip! :)

Not butler style in our experience. Room service sets your table, opens the dishes and leaves you to enjoy your meal on your own. I wonder if whoever was describing that was having a "private dining experience" (I think it's called). I know this can be set up around the grounds of the GF so I imagine it can be done in your room as well?? Anyway, we've never done that. I imagine it costs quite a bit more than regular room service. Janet2K has described private dinners. She could probably answer your questions. I believe she has a trip report up currently. And I bet you would need to set that up a day or two ahead at least. Sorry I misunderstood your question.

Oh no no no you didn't misunderstand I would rather them just bring it and leave us to our meal. I would however wonder about having all those courses brought out at once. I guess if they brought things out seperately you would have to pay the 3$ fee each time they came to your room seeing as the 18% would be the same regardless. Thanks for all the help!!!!!!!!
