I spoke to Georginna Sussan, the GM of the GF, a few days ago and now have the official explanation on the A/C motion sensors. Each thermostat is supposed to have a "setpoint" at 72 degrees. You can set your A/C lower than that, and it will cool to that temperature if there is motion in the room. With no motion (i.e. at night), the room should not get any warmer than the set 72. Unfortunately, not all of these thermostats are sensitive enough to be exactly 72, or somehow accidentally get reset by guests playing with the buttons. This can make the setpoint, or the maximum temperature with no motion go to a higher level. Ours was going up to a high of 78 at night.
