GF expansion update... Another update on pg. 6!!!

Thanks for the great link! I'm so curious to see how this all plays out. Just wondering what is the chance that this is just an expansion and NOT DVC? Can that be??c:confused3

Cool, thanks for posting the link!!

We just got back from Disney on Friday and noted while visiting the GF a big green wall going up in the area Disney has filed plans for the expansion!! I wonder if it'll be like BLT and be mostly constructed before they finally announce their plans!!

I don't think there's a big demand for GF rooms that they would want to add more non-DVC. In fact, I would not be surprised if it's like AKL where they convert some current rooms to DVC.

I'm hoping a couple of GF buildings are converted to DVC also with one with concierge treatment (like at Sugar Loaf). This would be a nice option.

It can be...but is highly unlikely. The Deluxe resorts are not that high of demand to consider expanding them. The people willing to pay that price are not in high supply right now and a GFV would actually help bring more people into the vacation club and Disney will not be losing their business anytime soon.

It would be a perfect location to build honeymoon suites to go with the wedding pavilion. It is possible Disney believes they could make more money off weddings while the "deluxe" hotel business is soft.

I would be very interested in an add-on at this location -- really nicely located right between the Poly and GF.

Not a bad thought.

EDIT: The bit at the link about the existing monorail station is confusing. The existing GF monorail station is further north, adjacent to the main lobby. The covered walkway doesn't appear to reach all the way there.

The people willing to pay that price are not in high supply, but ARE in high demand. We just had very wealthy friends leave GF after 2 nights. Felt they were not getting what they paid for and moved off-site. Said "Disney should be ashamed" charging those prices for an outdated suite with old beds. The manager practically begged them to reconsider. Offered to bring them to other resorts and show them other suites until they found something they liked. My friend said it was almost uncomfortable, like he thought the guy was going to cry.
They want that business. They are losing it to the proliferation of off-site high end resorts that outclass the Disney deluxe. This matters, trust me. We have several friends who only stay off site. The accommodations are "incomparable" according to people we've talked to.

Which off-site high end resorts? Personally, where I think many of the Disney deluxes fall flat is in transportation. For that price, they should absolutely NOT be sharing buses. When our WL bus to Hollywood Studios stopped at GF, it was already full, and the GF guests all had to stand -- and then it stopped at a water park before the studios. Unacceptable.

Well, I think all water park stops on park routes unacceptable ;)

Anyway, there seems to be a lot of taxi activity at GF. I would guess a lot of suite guests take taxis instead waiting for busses.

Entirely possible, but my point is that they shouldn't have to do that for the amount of money they're paying. The value resorts have superior bus service to many deluxes.

Thanks for the link. Very cool. We have seen this scenario before so I would bet a lot DVC is moving into the GF.

"If they build it, they will come." I know I will. Satisfied with the points I have so I won't be adding on.

i can not see disney building anything at this time that is not DVC related....it is a cash cow for them, and while other expansion has crawled along, DVC expansion has been exploding....another DVC resort on the monorail would not shock me in the slightest!
