GF dormer room - info please?

Are these rooms much smaller than standard garden view rooms? What are the differences? What are the balconies like? Views? What are the price differences? Any photos??? Would you reccomend this room for a family of 3?? Thank you for info!!!

Hi! We stayed in a dormer room in Sago Cay on our honeymoon in 2000. We were in room 5441 and this particular room has a king bed. However, not every dormer has a king. I think most have two queens. We also stayed in a standard (non dormer) room in 2001 in Conch Key. I think the room was 3001...not 100% sure about that. Anyway, the only difference was that the standard room has a daybed. The dormer has a little couch, but it is not as big as the daybed. However, the biggest difference was the ceilings. The dormer room has these vautled ceilings which give the room such a spacious, open feel! I loved it!!!! Now the balcony is small with the dormers and is closed off, so you can't sit and see much. With the standard room, the balcony runs the length of the room and has an open railing and you can sit and see whatever your view is. In the dormer, we had a castle view and sat on our balcony and watched the 4th of July fireworks. (Very awesome!). In our standard room, we were facing the marina, and since we went in December and it was cold, we didn't use the balcony much. The cool thing about both our rooms at the GF was that we could hear the train whistle and the howling of the wolf from the Haunted Mansion. So magical!

So for a family of 3, I would recommend a dormer room, especially if you are getting a garden view and not a lagoon view room. But even if you are getting a lagoon view room and end up with the magical view of the castle, you will not be disappointed with the dormer!

7425 in Conch Key is a corner dormer room - two balconies!!! One looks directly out at the castle and the other larger one at the marina. While I haven't checked recently, it was the room shown at the offical WDW site for the standard room plan at the GF (the 360 degree view). It is the largest room we have stayed in at WDW -- plenty of room for 3.

I have stayed a number of times at the G.F. and the first time was in a dormer room. I would never stay in one again. I should tell you that we were two adults and a child and had two queen size beds. The room is, in my view, CONSIDERABLY smaller than the standard room. It feels much more cramped and has no day bed. The balcony is also much smaller. It has a small table and two almost bar stool like chairs. It really is only comfortable for one person to relax on.

The room does have a vaulted ceiling, with a ceiling fan but frankly, I want my space in the room and not in the air.! LOL There is no desk and the room table is very small and cramped.

The front desk people had told me that this was a superior room. Yeah right! On all of our subsequent visits, I have made sure that I never get a dormer room.

Now, if you could get a corner room...that would be different. The corner rooms have two balconies and are much more spacious. I have stayed there and loved that. A standard dormer room, however...NO WAY!

We had a dormer room last October and liked it very much. We've never been in the other standard room with full balcony, so we have nothing to compare to. It had plenty of room for us and our DD (3 1/2). I assume they put us there because we were a party of 3, not because it was a superior room. But we thought it was lovely and have requested another for this year's trip to WDW and the GF. We certainly don't need a daybed in our room, or a couch, for that matter, since we spend most of our time at the parks and don't lounge around the room, except before bed, and then we're on the balcony or in bed!

Both rooms are considered standard, so the rates are the same.

Either way, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay!

WE STAYED IN A DORMER ROOM (BOCA CHICA) IN FEB. 2002. IT WAS WONDERFUL. AS A MATTER OF FACT WE REQUESTED ANOTHER DORMER ROOM AT THE GRAND FLORIDIAN FOR OUR VACATION THIS COMING SEPTEMBER.

I stayed in a Big Pine Key dormer room in 2001 and loved it. The balcony chairs and tables were the same as the rest of them. I actually preferred the privacy that the dormer provided. There were 2 of us and we fit just fine on the balcony. We had a garden view room, 9512 and we had the most perfect view of the MK fireworks.
If you plan to sit on the balcony for hours and watch the pool, gardens or lagoon, then don't go with the dormer.
