I have read you can order special cakes from the GF. Is there a site you can to and look at the different styles? How does it work if you want to order one over the phone? Does anyone have there number? Thank you so much for your help. :goodvibes

I called before we left because I wanted to surprise my wife at afternoon tea with a cake.

I called the Grand Floridian and asked for the bakery. The nice woman told me what they offered but that the way they do it now is that you order when you arrive at the restaurant podium to check in. That's what I did (without my wife nearby to hear) and while we were having tea, the small cake (the smallest they make but enough for 4-6 people) was being baked. Talk about fresh!! It was a white cake with white frosting and I had special lettering put on. The server brought it out at dessert time.

It worked out great. Nice surprise for my wife who dragged me...I mean...who asked me to take her to afternoon tea.

I recommend.

Sorry, I don't have the GF # handy.

Thanks for the help. Sounds really nice.

The phone nuber to the bakery directly is 14078242982. I have never ordered at the podium before so I cant coment on that. I have always phoned ahead and made an order. We ordered a top tier of a wedding cake for our anniversary , and we have ordered mini castle cakes that are one serving and have a white chocolate castle on the top. They also have cinderella Slippers.

:confused3 Not sure if this is irrelevant but I just called the Grand Floridian bakery today to order a nice small cake for husband's b-day/anniversary(never got to have a wedding cake) and was told unless I was dining at the Grand floridian or staying there(we are off property this timeHGVC dining at Lecellier for B-day,) I could not order and pickup my cake not even prepaying by credit card, not only that but they will not allow me to order it in person and pay for it. Their excuse was that I must pay for all the people that have ordered cakes and never come to pick them up! I'm crushed because we dreamed of a beautifull creation of butter cream and raspberry mouse and white chocolate, not the grocery store quality cakes we have seen at the restaraunts :guilty: :bitelip:. The nice lady I spoke with even tried to talk to the chef and sweet talk him for me, as I would prepay but no dice, I was told to call Chef Steffan at the Yacht Club/Boardwalk and see if he might do something for me. Gosh I'm just so depressed, we leave on Dec 1 for 9 days. Can anyone offer any suggestions that might save me or send me in the right direction? Please! Thank you, Conor's Mom :flower:

Yep. They told me the same thing. They said call your hotel and see if they can do anything for you. That kinda ticks me off. They said I couldn't order one to go because they don't travel well. So. If I know that up front and don't care why can't I order one. It was almost funny how they refused to sell me one to take to my room at another Disney resort. Oh well. I called my hotel left a message with the food service people and no one called back. I also don't know what to do. I really wanted a nice disney cake to celebrate our anniversary. Anyone else know what to do? :confused3

I called the GF this afternoon to see about ordering a Cinderella slipper and dog bones to be picked up and taken back to the Poly. The lady took my order and cc info and said to pick it up at the front desk on the day that I wanted to pick it up. Not even 10 minutes later, she called back and said that she was sorry but that they had stopped doing the "to go" orders (and had stopped making the dog bones too). She apologized and suggested I contact the Poly private dining directly to see what they had to offer.

I called ahead of time and ordered 2 cakes for the girls birthday. We did not eat them there we ended up taking them home. They had lots of desserts to choose from.

Doesn't seem very Disney like of the GF bakery to deny a paying Disney guests request- no magic ihere at all. Today I will have my husband call them and maybe the squeky wheel will get the oil! I will also put a all into Chef Steffan as they requested. Just hope I can get something nice, I don't want a run of the mill cake. After seeing all the beautifull cakes on these boards I can't tell you how disapointed I am. When I said that our celebration dinner was at Lecellier, the girl on the phone kind of laughed and said "No they don't have any good quality cakes available at Lecellier" you definetly won't get what you are looking for". Wondering if I should try and get an AR for anything at GF, just to order my cake and then pay and leave with it! Just seems so unfair- especially when they know there are lots of people celebrating anniversaries and birthdays. What does anyone suggest I do? Thank you Conor's Mom :sunny:

Sorry, I don't have any ideas how to get the GF to do what you want

But if you can't work that out, you can order a delicious and beautiful cake and have it delivered to your hotel

I have ordered before from
williams sonoma
neiman marcus

and my favorite choice - vosages chocolate - check out their beautiful cakes

good luck

Just wanted to say thank you for the suggestion before I run to work! Thank you very much, I will look into the cakes. :sunny:

I'm actually not surprised that they won't allow pick ups anymore and I really don't think it's unreasonable.

You could arrange it through your resort, though, especially if you are staying at one of the monorail resorts. Or just eat at one of the GF restaurants to get it.

GF bakery is not like the Boardwalk bakery where you can walk in and place an order or pick something up; there is no 'store'. It's the resort's bakery for their guests and weddings. I don't think it was ever really intended for people at other resorts to order and pick up items. I'm sure they had many customers who didn't show up and they've been burned enough thus the change in policy.

Sorry to all of you who couldn't get a cake there.

A few things:

1. The GF bakery is busy each and every day making wedding cakes for the many weddings that take place at the GF and Wedding Pavillion (and it would be my guess that they also do the cakes for the intimate weddings at Sunset Point at the Polynesian), so for the chefs to work extra to make cakes for pick-up probably puts more stress on them, and I am sure they feel a TON of stress.

2. The Polynesian private dining has many wonderful choices! Tuxedo strawberries, truffles and birthday cakes, to name a few.

3. We got a cake from the YC Bakery in 2003 when we took an Illuminations cruise. My mom called the YC and spoke with private dining and arranged for a chocolate cake with raspberry filling to be on our boat for our cruise. It was MAGNIFICENT!

4. When we stayed at the WL, I was able to customize a cake through the WL bakery for my DH's birthday. I did this in 2004 and 2005 and will do it again in 2006.

5. When I took my mom, aunt and grandmom to tea at the GF I was able to pre-order 3 Cinderella Slippers. I did this about 6 weeks ahead of time.

6. My DH ordered me a mini wedding cake with a white chocolate castle for our dinner at Victoria and Albert's. The cake was ok - not as good as the top wedding cake that I ordered for my parents when we stayed at the GF in 2001.

So, my point is this.

If you want a cake from the GF, make a ressie to eat at one of the restaurants there. If you want a nice cake from your resort (whichever that may be) call that resort and ask about what is offered. You won't be disappointed. After all, you're at DISNEY!

I agree. It doesn't seem fair that you can't get what you are willing to pay for! I would happily pay in advance, so they don't lose out if I don't show. I just don't have in the plans a dinner at the GF. I wanted to take the cake somewhere more romantic anyway.

I can see some of the points others made about them not doing this for everyone. But it seems to me if there is that much of a demand for these cakes they could hire more people to work on them, and then everyone could have there cake. My resort has only generic offerings.

It is aggravating to know what you want and be willing to pay for it, but them say no you can't get one to take with you.

I just want my and cake and to eat it too!!!
(sorry couldn't resist :) )

:) My thoughts exactly!!! Wow I actually feel better knowing I'm not the only one. I know that you must feel the same way as far as planning for all this. When are you going? We are 1st of December-10th. I'm not pregnant now but really craving cake! (you always want what is unobtainable, right?) Those generic cakes I think I'd pass on even if they were free! Hopefully we will all have our cake and eat it too!!! I'm begining to think and my husband thinks as well that I have an obbsession with Disney and food. Thanks and Best of Luck to you Have a great vacation and should you hear of anything and I likewise will send you a message about it! Thank you, Conor's Mom :)

Yes it is nice to know someone else feels like you! :goodvibes We will be there Nov.13th-19th. We also don't enjoy generic cakes. That is why I thought if anywhere Disney would be the place to find something extra special.

The only thing I have been able to find, is at the Broadwalk Bakery they have a cake shaped like mickey's head/face. They are $45. You need to order at least two days in advance. I don't know if this helps you or not. I will let everyone know anything else I find out. :goodvibes

Hope you all have a great trip!! I am sure we will all figure something out. :goodvibes

OK, I might be wrong on this, BUT I think I remember reading on these boards that the MK itself has a bakery and if you're dining at any of the MK restaurants, they can customize a cake for you. I don't know if any of your plans include a MK ts restaurant, but I thought I'd throw this thought into the mix.
