We are returning to WDW for our 2nd anniversary. I wanted to order a "wedding cake" and a bottle of Fairytale Cuvee to celebrate. I called the GF, spoke with Private Dining and ultimately to the Bakery and they were FANTASTIC!!! They really worked with me to get the cake I wanted. They are making a 10-inch cake in marble with White Chocolate Mousse icing (the same flavor as our FTW cake) and topping it with a White Chocolate Mickey and Minnie and pink roses. I think it will be in the neighborhood of about $70 or $80. They will be delivering the cake and cuvee the night of our anniversary.

I just wanted to express my kudos to the CM's I talked to and let you know that this is possible for anyone spending their honeymoon or an anniversary at the GF. (Note: you DO have to be staying at the GF or be dining at a GF restaurant to do this)

How romantic! I sure hope my DF and I do that for one of our anniversaries. I will definitely keed the bakery in mind when we come back to the World after our DFTW

Hi MrsTink04

That's great news about your cake, not to contradict you BUT it is not the case that you HAVE to be staying at The Grand Floridian to have this done. My girlfriends planned this for Paul and I's first anniversary and we all had a meal at California Grill and it was possible (with a little "leaning" on) to have the cake elsewhere - it would have been easier still if we just wanted it for our room.

Here's a picture of our original wedding cake and then underneath is the re-creation that the Bakery made for us a year later:

That is so great to know. Will they do a smaller version of a cake for guests?

I want to surprise my parents with a cake in their room when they arrive in Disney - as a thank you for all the hard work. But that size might be a little large for them.

Sam, I was misinformed. Thanks for the clear-up, I'm sure other DISers will be thrilled to know that! Your cakes are beautiful. They do a great job, don't they!?!

By the way - Welcome back!!! Stitch is SO adorable!! What kind of dog is he? Looks a little like a Havanese?

It's always the way with Disney they'll try and put boundaries in the way and I have no doubt you were told otherwise but like I said a little leaning on and everyone gets happy. Where there's a will there's a way!! For others reading this as far as I know as long as you are prepared to pick up the cake from the GF bakery they'll do it. Now what I do also know (I asked my girlfriend for more details on how they made this happen) the California Grill did not want to put the cake in their fridge (H&S reasons) but the girls stood their ground and it made it happen. So I can see why it may have to be ONLY a restaurant at the GF but as long as you're prepared to pick up the cake then you can always have it for your room.

Stitch is a Shih-Tzu with the "teddy bear" cut, I'm so thrilled that everyone loves him, I have to stop myself from cuddling him up too much.

hi
wow that it a real nice cake.
If you don't mind me asking Sam, how much did they charge for a cake that size?
(the smaller one), and how many did it serve?

Janine - I am unsure of the cost because it was a surprise - I broke down in tears at the table - it was really funny because I saw our server bring out the cake and I thought to myself "awww how sweet the girls told them it was our anniversary, and the server has just done something special" but when he put the cake down in front of me I was like "OMG that's OUR cake" and it was rare moment of me breaking down in tears - I couldn't hold it together at all - it was such a wonderful surprise to say the least. It served 12 of us VERY well - and it was the exact same flavor as our top layer cake from the year before - yellow sponge, white choccy mousse and strawberries, which had been my choice, Paul had gotten to choose for the bottom and middle layer. We were so touched :)

I am SO VERY GLAD to hear that this is possible!!

We LOVED LOVED LOVED our cake (chocolate with amaretto mousse)...it was probably one of the best wedding cakes I've ever had (I may be a bit biased! ;) ).

Anyway, the intimate cake was HUGE for just the two of us, and with all the other stuff available to eat at Disney...well, most of it went to waste.

I was hoping the next time we go that we could order a cake and maybe ask for it to be ready the day we are leaving (or the day before) and have something ready to carry it home in!!! :)

For returning B/G's considering obtaining an anniversary cake, here are the guidelines set by Disney as of last fall.

Anniversary cakes for the Grand restaurants and room service are made at the Grand Bakery. The Grand bakery is responsible for 95 percent of the wedding cakes on property. Due to the increase in business, the Grand bakery has delegated the anniversary cakes not served at the Grand to the other bakeries across property. Those bakeries are supplied with the same recipe's as the Grand, so your cake will taste the same as your original. The only exception is the Magic Kingdom, as they employ an outside company. If you truly want a cake from the Grand bakery, then I suggest that you try and contact you EM from your wedding, and see what they can do.
The Grand bakery no longer provides cakes for pickup, as it was unfair to ask the guest to find transportation across WDW to pick up their order when the other resort bakeries could provide the cakes. In addition, most guests had difficulties transporting their own cakes, resulting in damaged cakes and dissappointed guests.

I am going down for my planning session in May and we are obviously not married. I thought about us ordering a cake just to try it out.....will they do that, say I ate at the Beach Club and how far in advance do you order it?
And what kind of cake should I get?

You can do a cake testing at your planning session. That way you'll be able to taste all the flavors you are interested in and you won't have to choose! Or pay for the cake :)

Oh I know we can try it at the planning session, but I just thought maybe it would be more realistic if we ordered a whole cake....how big are they? Thanks for the reminder

Thank you for posting that information, IntheKnow. I had read the same thing on the Dis' Restaurants Board several months ago. It is valuable information for all of us to have so that we can plan accordingly when the time comes to order an anniversary cake.

Does anyone know if they do smaller cakes than 6 inches? I want to suprise my parents when they arrive and its just the 2 of them...it owuld be way to much wasted. Ideas??

I don’t know if they always do this, but we had a small cake at our cake testing session (along with the separate pieces of cakes/frosting/fruit to mix and match). That gave us a great idea of what a whole cake would really taste like, since it was essentially a regular cake (just smaller and not elaborately decorated).

The GF Bakery did a small replica of our cake for our first anniversary as well. They let us choose either a one-tier or two-tier version. If my memory serves me, I believe the two-tier was $80.00.

At the time, the GF bakery did make it even though we were staying at the Poly. The Polynesian concierge then arranged to have it delivered to our room. I understand that now other bakeries will make the cakes as well. Having sampled a cake we were given for free at the AKL as an anniversary surprise, I can assure you you’re in good hands. That cake was incredible too—it looked like a giant zebra dome.

Here are pics of my real cake and the replica:

Real cake (the picture isn’t the greatest—the top layer had snowflakes, the middle had wreaths, and the bottom had our initials and holly)

does anyone know if we can have 2 different cake flavours on our cake (we are having an intimate wedding)because our youngest son only eats chocolate cream so i thought of having the marble and some sort of chocolate cream and then having a different flavour for us (there will only be 4 of us at our wedding)or are we stuck with having the cake all the same flavour?

thanks eve ::MinnieMo
