I'm sure this has been covered before, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or have any information on the Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian? I don't know anything about it, and just heard about it, so if anyone has any information, I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you!!

Yes! My son and I had a wonderful time at the Afternoon tea. I remember we had to make reservations and most days were booked (and this was during a low season), so you may want to make sure you make reservations before you leave.

It is a relatively formal atmosphere, and there are many kinds of teas to choose from, served from fancy china tea sets by the waiters/ waitresses. There are a variety of scones, finger sandwiches and other bakery items to have with your tea. My son had the special magic tea, which is actually chocolate milk, served in a small tea seat for children (though also china). He also had finger sandwiches (tuna, peanut butter and jelly and turkey if I remember correctly), and pastries for dessert. Then the waitress overhead him talking about his birthday, so all the waitresses came out w/ a big cupcake and sang Happy Birthday to him. It was so much fun. The service and atmosphere was just wonderful. The prices were somewhat steep (as you would expect for the semi formal atmosphere and luxury hotel property) and the food only so-so, but the experience of high tea is worth it.

Hope you go and have a great time :).:bounce:

scrump ~ My sister and I had tea or shall I say hot chocolate there just a few weeks ago. I had the best time ever. Some of the things were a little pricey but we had the hot chocolate (which is the best I have ever had) , we each had our own order of scones and we shared strawberries in cream which we put on the scones and they were wonderful and it wasn't expensive at all. The room is quite lovely and happy IMHO. It was such a great experience, I am actually craving the hot chocolate and scones right now. I will definetely go back and actually I will be staying at the Grand Floridian in mid Nov and I already have a PS because I don't want to miss it!! I hope this helps!!

The tea at the GF is really nice. My mother, my children and I went in '99 and we loved it. I went in September of this year by myself and I loved it.
There is a great selection of teas, the scones are delicious and I had the strawberries and cream that were fantastic! I could not eat them all, they were huge.
It is very relaxing, you are not hurried at all, I had two pots of tea.
I would recommend the tea to everyone.

The tea at GF is lovely. The hours are 3pm-6pm in the Garden View lounge which is located on the first floor the back of the lobby. We usually do Tea for two. We each get our own pot of tea, selecting a flavor of our choice, tea sandwiches, scones and desserts.

If you've never had tea in a hotel in London, you will probably enjoy this experience. If you have had the real thing, though, there is no comparison. The sandwiches are dry; the service is sloppy; the presentation is very American - instead of the food being served on a 3 tiered tray, it is served on separate plates.
You will probably enjoy it, though, if you have no point of comparison, because the sandwiches and scones are okay, as far as what you usually get in American restaurants. They are nothing like those warm, buttery, sweet, soft scones in the UK, and the sandwiches don't begin to compare with the soft, melt-in-your mouth, delicate bread that they are served on in places like Brown's or Claridge's.
So if you're looking for an authentic experience, this isn't it, but it is an enjoyable way to pass the afternoon, if you're not expecting the real thing.
Cheers!

I don't know if any of you remember the afternoon tea at the Rose and Crown. We had some wonderful conversations with the young staff about afternoon tea and what they missed most from home. There was even a large bowl of devonshire cream! Eventually the tea was discontinuted. It was one of our "must do's". So I'm glad that the GF has the afternoon tea!

THANK YOU all for your input and advice! It seems like a new thing that my friend and I will have to try. Understandably, it will be Americanized, but a lot of things at WDW/World Showcase are, but it will be fun nonetheless. I will go ahead and make PS's. Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!! :bounce:
