Getting worried about the weather...

we are leaving for WDW in less than 2 weeks. It is so dreary here in the NE... to get psyched for our trip I usu. check weather.com a week or so before we leave. Well, atleast so far the extended forecast is for thunderstorms every day!! I had heard that the weather is usu. pretty good the beg. of May... what are the odds we will get rained out?

we've been there a couple of different times during early to mid may. usually the weather is ideal. it will be quite warm if not hot, but, typically not real humid yet. generally, the rains are afternoon showers, not the all day type of rains we have in the spring here in the midwest. Even if it does rain, buy a poncho and enjoy the parks to yourself. A wet disney is still better than not being there at all. enjoy!

You just have to keep in mind that showers are typical at WDW, but they usually don't last for long. The good part is that even if you do hit a day which is rainy all day long, it has a tendency to cut crowds!!

Head to your local Wal-Mart (or whatever), and buy disposable ponchos . . they're about .79 each or something. They're in the sporting goods section, and will fit into a fanny pack easily. When the showers come, don your ponchos and keep on truckin'. When the rain has gone, simply toss your drippy ponchos into the nearest trash! It beats having to carry around your more expensive, wet ponchos after the showers end.

Another plus is that these are usually clear . . . most folks buy WDW ponchos when the rains start, and it's almost impossible to tell one person from another in a sea of yellow!!

Don't worry at all, that forecast will change almost everyday. The good thing is that it most likely will not rain all day-- just those brief afternoon showers.

i have been 6 times in May and the weather has been great. Very little to no rain. Everyday though, the weather forcast said 20% chance of Thunderstorms / Rain. Days on end of nice weather and there was always 20% chance. :) Once in a while we would have the thunder storm but they last 30 minutes to an hour and a half and are somewhat enjoyable...well for us west coast types! ;)

The rainy season here does not officially start until June. However its been known to start early. (rainy season is the thunderstorms in the afternoons). May generally is a good month. Its warm, (mid to upper 80's) but not yet hot (mid 90's) and often still dry.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: don't trust the extended forecasts! When was the last time the forecasters nailed a storm where you live two weeks in advance? Never! Forecasts more than 2-3 days out are just an educated guess.

Trust the climate, not the forecast.

Amen to that! I've watched the 15 forecast from AcuWeather in the past and it literally changed everyday. It's seems that alot of meteorologists can barely predict three days out correctly never mind 15.

After spending a year in Orlando at the Naval Center in 1982 I found the following information that I use when i go to WDW.

The weather in WDW is almost always predictable. I always plan a late lunch around 3pm in a sit down restaurant, that way when I am done the storm has usually gone through.

Either that, or head back to the hotel around 3pm for a quick nap and then head back. Most days its a 30 min storm and the suns back out and the humidity is up.
