Hey guys -

I'm in Louisiana, currently getting hammered by Gustav. Pray with me that everyone gets through this okay...

I know it's selfish, but I'm worried about my vacation scheduled for September 20-26. Hanna looks like it may bring some rain, and now Ike is forming out in the Atlantic, coming towards the "lower 48."

Disney has a hurricane policy, but switching my reservation is not an option. I know I need to just wait and see, but do you guys think it would be worth heading that way if and going anyway even if tons of rain is scheduled to fall?

I have been planning this trip and looking forward to it for over 6 months. My nerves are on edge because of Gustav anyway.

ugh, the stress.

I share your worry. Of course first and foremost I hope the hurricanes (all and any) would just blow themselves out at sea and do NO damage to anyone or anything. But we will also be down 9/20-10/5 and I am hoping that it does not affect this trip. Mostly because we had to plan the trip so far in advance so we could save and afford it, that we kinda drove my poor DD(7) crazy waiting for it. If it was affected by a hurricane it would really be a downer for her. :guilty:

I don't think any of the current storms will affect your vacations...your dates are too far away. Disney's hurricane policy only takes effect if the hurricane is forecasted to hit your home state or Orlando. I don't know if you got free dining but if you switch your dates, you'll lose free dining under Disney's hurricane policy.

I think it all depends on the path of the hurricane, and how close the center of it is likely to get to Orlando.

We went to WDW in 2005 during Hurricane Wilma; we got there on a Saturday, and storm went through early Monday morning. We got just the "outer edges" of the hurricane - lots of wind and rain, but nothing scary. The parks only closed for about 1/2 day. Our resort, Shades of Green, handled everything very well - they communicated with all guests through "broadcast" voice mails to all of the rooms, letting us know the status of the storm and when the parks would be opening. Everyone was told to stay in their rooms until the hurricane passed about 12:00 p.m.- then the parks opened at 2:00 p.m. We never lost electrical power. All in all, it worked out great for us - the weather after the storm was very pleasant (upper 70s and no humidity!).

I'm very glad we didn't cancel our trip - but if the storm was slated to move directly over Orlando, we probably would have canceled. I used to live in Florida, and in fact moved there three days before Hurricane Andrew (a category 5 hurricane). You just never know what can happen - Gustav wasn't as bad as they thought it would be last weekend, but it could have been!

Hey Everyone!
I'm supposed to fly out on Saturday (from Jersey) first to Universal then to Disney (from 9/6 to 9/14) and I'm really worried about the upcoming storms. Anyone else traveling to Orlando this weekend? Am I right to be freaking out?
:confused3

Just a quick note about Disney. As long as you can get there, there -it is probably one of the safest places to be during any emergency. They have their own water treatment plant, power station, and can operate for 1 month running at full capacity(all rooms, in all properties booked solid) and all they staff needed to take care of those guests, with enough food and water for them for that month! I found this out from a 20 yr veteran bus driver. Pretty cool huh? :)

We are flying out of BUF on the 7th. If it is any consolation to you, this is our first triip ever and by the look of your signature, you have been tons of times. So, add anxiety about not only your 1st trip but a Hurricane, imagine how I must feel:lmao:

We are in the same boat. Or may we will need a boat. We leave Sept 24 and I am not canceling my plans. A rainy day at Disney beats a dry day at work!
So pack a poncho and an extra pair of shoes and lets have some fun.

I'm flying in on Friday from CO. I'll be happy as long as I get to MCO. If my flight home gets cancelled - oh well, I won't be too upset!!

What is going on with these hurricanes back to back, we fly out 9/19 and I think we will miss Hanna and Ike but now Josephine is out there looming....this just stinks!!!

I have been tracking storms over at NOAA and they seem to be far enough away from Orlando that all Disney might get is rain. But I have also come to realize something- I have just added another faucet to my OCD bag o' tricks! My new mantra: I will NOT worry about he weather too......OHMM:worship:Or I will be in the hospital soon...OHMMMM:worship: :rotfl: (it's just a matter of which kind of hospital;) )

I am getting nervous too. Our first trip with children... been planning (and saving) for 8 months. I'd hate to cancel and lose out on all the memories (and $).

Hi Tampoher...South LA here too. I'm on the northshore so lucky Gustav only had us without power for about 24 hours and only stole a few shingles off my roof. But the whole evacuation thing really SUCKS and it looks like we may all be doing it again for Ike. I'm really over it. And, I head to WDW Oct 3. I'm not really concerned right now about any of the current storms out there affecting my trip in 4 weeks, but, I am concerned that if Ike pays LA a visit later this week, we may never return home because I'm not sure this place can handle another strike. I'm with ya in your worries. Hope you fared well during Gustav.

we are also scheduled to fly out of Providence RI on 9/10...... I have lost sleep over this...Ike is driving me nuts!!!
We have saved for soooooo long for this trip for our son's high school graduation gift and I have a feeling we wont be going anywhere on the 10th..
UGH!!! Prayers....lots of prayers. putting my rosary beads outside for the next few days!:scared:

I hope everyones vacation goes without a hitch. I'm trying not to worry too much, but its getting harder. Ike looks like its coming strong. PLEASE don't let it go to the gulf - please don't let it go to the gulf...(my mantra right now).
