Getting very sick of the wake up call!

We got the call - but later... around 10:00am - at Vero last week.

We've gotten it several times over the course of our membership, but I don't recall if it was more often at OKW than other resorts...

This happened to us in July of 2005 at Saratoga Springs. The worst part was that we got these early morning calls DAILY during a 7 night stay. :furious:

Front desk never could figure it out. We had several "messages" on our phone as well when we would come back from the parks.....nothing but static!

When we were at VB a few weeks ago the staff would leave messages pertaining to Ernesto and announcements about moving villa and cottage residents to the Inn. I always thought the phone would ring once or something to alert about a new message, but nope, just a light came on.

I don't know, this is too many reports for this to be happenstance. And all on check-out day? :teacher:

If I had to investigate this I would look at housekeeping... :3dglasses

Theory... If it were my responsibility to have all check-out rooms ready ASAP :scared: , and it is now 8am :hourglass , and the first person has yet to check out :confused3 , I might be stressed enough to be prone to mis-dials  accidents do happen under stress.

It's happened to us at SSR and OKW....SO ANNOYING!!!! And we've had the knocks on the door too!

We've also had the persistent knocks on the door starting at 8 or 8:30. Each time we tell them what time we'll be leaving the room so they know when to come back and each time they come anyway. We don't really mind as on some days, it gets us moving!!

I'm usually the last one ready as I'm always helping everyone else first and I'll meet my family at the food court.

My worst fear used to be that I'll just be getting out of the shower and won't have heard them knocking, and they'll have walked in giving me and them the scare of our lives. :rotfl2:

i suspect its mousekeeping. leave the do not disturb sign on the door. until you leave than when i leave as a courtsey i turn it around saying plese service room or whatever that card says.

I opened this thread hoping someone was starting a campaign to get rid of the Stitch wake-up call. We're really hoping Mickey is back by our December trip.

Haven't had any "mystery" calls, but we have had housekeeping call & ask us to let them know when we leave the room. They came EARLY on check-out day & were kind of annoying because we were planning on sleeping in.

While we have never had this happen, we certainly do hear enough about it on the boards, so maybe it's time for some folks going to the Annual meetings to ask about this! It really should NOT be happening. We usually call and let the front desk know when we are leaving and tell them they can alert housekeeping. If I happen to see a housekeeper on my way out, I tell them too.

In no way do I condone this practice.

However, keep in mind that the only motivation housekeeping would have to doing this is to allow them to get into a room as quickly as possible, clean it, and make it available for the next guest. It's not like they (or Disney) personally profit from it.

Like I said, I don't like the mystery call practice. But MANY people here have also complained about not getting into their rooms before 4:00 too. See the irony in that?

One of the reasons that this mystery call bothers me is that I have an elderly father who does not travel with us very often.

So, when it's happened, I race to check my cell phone to see if perhaps I missed a call. Then I end up making a concerned call to him to make sure it wasn't him, or someone back home, trying to reach us due to an emergency.

I think it's likely the main reason is to the benefit of the individual employee and not with the idea specifically of the next guest checking in though that's a side benefit. I suspect they're graded in some way by how many units they clean and how soon they have them finished.

Never got a call, but one time at BCV about 3 years ago Mousekeeping knocked on our door twice. Once at 8 AM and again at 9 AM, and said "Opps, I was told you had checked out".

So from now on all phones in the room WILL be unplugged from the wall the night before our departure and then housekeeping can plug them back in the next day!!! ;)
Understanding your frustration the odds are mousekeeping will not check the phones and the next guest will have phones that don't work. Can't wait for those posts to start, "not only was there a fly in my room the stupid phones didn't work"
We've never had this happen to us, but 8:00 your missing some good vacation time. We usually check out and either hit the pools or another 1/2 day at the parks. Resort will hold your belongings and provide showers and/or changing areas.

I understand what you're saying here Granny. I just think 8 am is entirely too early to be waking people up. I mean, check out is 11 am. That's a 3 hour difference.
Rather, I'd like to see housekeeping/or the resort leave a note by the phone or on the door stating "if you plan on checking out before the 11 am check out, please notify housekeeping or the front desk...." (or something to this effect).
The last morning we had been awakened at 8 am, we had been out late. I don't think we got to bed before 2 am. We were all packed up to move out that night. We had the "Do Not Disturb" sign out. Guess we'll just be unplugging the phone from now on. :confused3

MSDIS - NO we had a rental car and where flying out of Tampa! I don't think that wanting to sleep in on the last day is to much to ask especially when you have an early afternoon flight. and are tired from running the parks! I know i would never abuse the system and stay a minute past 11! It seems to me it's probably a staffing problem! But the only way to solve that is to put on more mousekeepers and then there goes our DUES! BOY members are so hard to make happy!! ;)

That could certainly explain it too, if there's an incentive for the employee to clean more units and make more available quickly. I figured that if it happened in multiple locations (as it did to us early on in our membership) it was more of a systemic thing than an individual one. Either way, it would be the desire to open units up quickly to new guests that would be driving the activity so I'll stick with my "irony" comment. :)

I agree with you that 8:00 a.m. is way too early to start checking on room occupancy...and I like your suggestion about a polite note asking the guest for notification. :thumbsup2

We were at SSR in July for our usual 2 weeks and we got a ton of these calls over the course of our vacation - most of them were in the middle of the night. We didn't mention it to front desk as we figured there was absolutely nothing they could do. If it was a crank call we didn't think they could deal with it, and if it was a computer phone glitch we didn't know what they could do either. We didn't want to bother them, so we unplugged the phone.

Tiger :)

No, that's never happened to us at any Disney hotel, but then we always set wake-up calls well before 8 AM, even on check-out days.
