Kids start their 2 week "tattie" holidays and go back on the 30th.
They took great delight in rubbing it in as I got up myself for breakfast :teeth:

Think I need to make lots of noise and put every light on in the house on Monday just to show them all how much I love them :rotfl2:

Is it something to do with potatoes??

I give in! What is a 'tattie' holiday?

Y'know I've heard this saying before, my mum is from up north (Newcastle in fact) and I'm sure she's said this to me in the past

I take it it's another name for Autumn half term or school holidays :confused3

i can't wait for the school holidays one more week to go :woohoo: i'm lucky enough to have a term time job.
But i would hate to be getting up while everybodys in bed so i do feel sorry for you and i'd feel like being a little noisier tan normal :sunny:

Yes traditionally kids had this time off school to help with the harvest. You have not lived, nor ached as much as working the potatoes over the October holidays :)

Wish Staffordshire had two weeks in October then I wouldn't have to take mine out of school for a week next year, in fact exactly one year from today

Poor you, Reid, I think a little extra noise wouldn't go amiss!

You have my sympathies Reid especially in the dark mornings. It's horrible getting up when everyone else is still asleep.

Their holidays start on Monday 16th but it was in service day on Friday so they get an extra day. I know friends in Glasgow whose children are only off a week starting 16th. Mind you they had 7 weeks in the summer :sunny:

Our schools finished yesterday for a week's October break. It'll be inservice on Mon 23rd, after the the week off.

I can't complain, as I'm a teacher so for me this is my moment of FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :woohoo: I don't have kids so I can wallow in smugness for a week. I'm heading down to London on Monday for a few days.

Have a great week off :)

Hope you have a fun time now that the kiddies are home; I get a week off the week off the week after next.

Hopefully my UCAS form will be done by then so I won't have to do it during 1/2 term.. :woohoo:

I remember it well. Picking tatties in all weathers but it was well worth it as you got paid well for your day and at 14 years old the money was a massive incentive to get out off bed. I remember my first day tattie picking and asking where the toilet was :rotfl: Even though I was a country girl I was mortified at having to go behind a wall with everyone knowing what I was doing :rolleyes1

Thanks for the memories and reminder. Being hit by a rotten tattie is something never forgotten :duck:

I get a 'week off' uni too, cept 2 hours one day a week isn't that big a deal since working takes up most of my time now anyway and that doesn't stop for half term sadly. Does mean Toys R Us is chocka though!
