Getting to Wild Africa Trek

Greetings All! I've had the BEST time reading these boards as my 2 teens and I prepare for our December 2016 vacation. I have learned so much and appreciate everyone's insights, tips, strategies, enthusiasm and overall helpfulness with one another. What a fabulous place this is!

My question is how to best get to AK by 7:45 a.m. on Friday 12/09. We will be staying at POR. Do the resort buses run that early, or would getting a cab be a better option? And would anyone have a recommendation regarding what time we should be making tracks towards AK to arrive by 7:45 a.m.? Thanks for your help!

1. Yes. The park buses start running at 6:30AM or earlier every day.
2. You can do that, but it will be unnecessary.
3, Be at the POR bus stop about 7:00-7:10AM.

I did a cab too. Just seemed easier. I was staying at AKL, so the ride was not a long one!

Given the expense of the special tour, a little more money for private transportation there reduces the stress of timing it with a bus and arriving on schedule-- which, to me, enhances the whole experience.

We had the 0800 tour earlier this month. We took the bus from the poly on a 0900 park opening day

Okay, that seals the deal! It really does enhance the experience exponentially to reduce stress. It's a very special event/splurge for us and I really don't want to be fretting over the bus schedule, so we'll be opting for the cab/Uber route.

I did the WAT tour last year in December and had to ask another bus driver if they would dispatch a bus over to AKL. That was around 7am. The bus showed up around 7:15am and had plenty of time to get up to the front of the park, but AKL is much closer than POR. I would definitely take a cab or Uber to get there on time so you don't miss out on the tour. They would try to fit you in to a later tour if you're late, but there are no guarantees. Have fun, it's a really cool tour. I wished it was longer.

Thanks Grumpy247365! This trip is to celebrate my daughter's high school graduation. She is a lover of animals (we all do, but she prefers animals to most people!) and I'm bouncing-off-the-walls excited about it. It's great to hear about others who have really enjoyed it. It's just too important of an event for us to risk bus timing, so we will definitely be taking a cab or Uber.
