we have hired a car so am wondering whether to use this to get to the disney parks (staying at saratoga) ..... would you say this was easier to do in august than wait for buses etc?

If so, strange question, but for each park, once you park in the car park, do you then just walk straight into each park or do you have another form of transport to get you there?

Depending when you arrive at AK, EPCOT or HS, you may be parked some distance from the park entrance so would need to use the Disney trams to complete your journey. However, we have been at EPCOT and parked fairly close to the front of the car parked and been able to walk.

At MK, you park at the Transporation and Ticketing Centre and then have to take the monorail or boat around/across the lake to MK entrance, whereas the buses drop you directly outside the entrance.

If you have a look here it will give you an idea of times using Disney Transport.

We tend to do a mixture of both. For MK, though, bus is the best option because it's the only way of getting directly to the entrance of the park (the bus stop is a very short walk from the turnstiles). Arriving by any other means, you have to go via the Transportation and Ticket Center (which is where the MK parking lot is situated) and then get the monorail or ferry across to the park.

For all the parks, you may have to get a tram from your car. If you arrive early, you'll often find you're close enough to walk. We almost always manage to be within walking distance at Epcot and AK, but we do tend to visit at quieter times of year. At the Studios, there are two entrances and it depends on which one you use as to whether you'll end up walking or getting the tram.

Have you got google earth?

If you have check out the parks and you will see how far the car parks are from the entrances. If it helps we aleady have them saved so I can send you the links to them all so you can see them.

I'm planning on driving most days to be honest even though we're onsite.

Just like the independance of being able to just up and go, and know I could be 'home' within 10 minutes, or even go on to somewhere else.

Obviously I'll use a bit of Disney Transport when I'm maybe planning on having a drink, or if we've just been relaxing at the hotel/offsite and decide to hit a park for some time or a meal :)

:goodvibes

We drive more than we get the buses :goodvibes only place we get Disney transport to is MK.

We always walk from the parking lots as we tend to get there near rope drop and park fairly near the front.

TBH None of the parking lots are that big (except the TTC) that you couldn't walk and we normally find it quicker than waiting for the tram.

I am planning to give the buses a good old try this year. I always drive and like the parking lot trams but I am hoping to be more relaxed this year. We will see how long that lasts!!!!

This is why we always take the Disney bus and never drive to the parks - once we arrive on site it's time for us to relax and let someone else do the driving. We also like the fact that the bus stops are generally closer to the parks entrances than the parking lots.

I do appreciate that, for some people, it's more relaxing for them to take control of their own transport arrangements but, for us, holidays = brain out of gear as much as possible!

The only park we always take the bus/monorail is to MK, the journey from TTC can sometimes be quite long.

We do a mixture of both also, when we take the car it's usually because we are planing on going somewhere after the park, like DTD,water park or shopping.

Although a few times we have waited for the bus what seems like forever and get peed off and go get the car instead...
