I would like to go on the steam trains tour, for which I need to be at MK for 7am. I plan on staying at the Wilderness Lodge. Can I park at the Contemporary and then walk over? Or would I have to make a dining reservation to be allowed to do that? I'm assuming the boats from WL won't be running that early?

If it's possible I don't mind walking the whole way!

Thanks for any advice

They should have given you this info when you made the reservation, but I suppose not all CMs are as helpful as they should be. The answer is yes, you can park at the Contemporary for free for this tour. I just did this a month ago and it worked fine. As instructed, I just told the guy at the parking lot booth that I was there for the tour...he didn't even check a list or anything, just waived me through. Then it's a short walk to the MK. One piece of advice, we got there right at 7, thinking we should be on the early side of the time window. I think we didn't actually start until 7:30 or 7:45, as we were waiting for both the other people and the train to actually show up at the gate. So I would not push yourself to get there early. There is nothing to do...you will not be allowed in the park until the tour actually starts. It's a great tour!

I am surprised they let you park at the CR for that.

OP, I'm almost positive there is walk/bike trail between WL & CR, so that's an option. I don't know when the earliest ADR is, but I think busses start running at 6:30 (although they aren't as frequent).

I'm not so sure about a walking trail between CR and WL. There is one between WL and Fort Wilderness, but between WL and CR I don't think there are walkways.

You're right. I'm thinking of the one between WL & FW. CR is on the other side of the water bridge, so there can't be a path.
